We are half way between the Summer Solstice and the Autumn
Equinox. This time of year is marked by the celebration of the ancient
fire festival of Lammas. The sun has reached its peak, the fields are
full of crops and the first harvest is just about to begin. In times
of old, people would have gathered together in the fields to bring
in the harvest, helping them to connect with the land and each other.
Now machines mainly do the work and we don’t see people working the
land. I often feel the Earth misses the connection it used to have
with people walking upon her and the coming together of community’s
working collectively, sharing stories of woes and happiness in their
lives.
The Night Sky
I haven’t seen much of the night sky as the weather has been really
cloudy. Soon, we will be able to see Venus as the evening star. Hopefully,
if the skies are clear, we will witness the conjunction of Venus
and Saturn, and Mars in its separation from Saturn. Later in the
evenings, we can see Jupiter low in the south shining really bright.
August is the month when we have a chance to observe the Perseids
meteorite shower. On the only clear night l recently experienced,
l saw the most amazing shooting star, l felt so blessed.
The New Moon Chart
August has two new Moons and one full Moon. There are two eclipses,
a solar eclipse on the 1st and a partial lunar eclipse on the 16th.
The ancients saw eclipses as important portents of future events,
having an ominous or prophetic significance. Giving us the feeling
that August will be a month to remember. The total solar eclipse.
on the 1st is visible over Russia and China and we have the Olympics
looming, which start on the 8/8/2008, said to be a very auspicious
date for the Chinese. There has been a lot controversy around the
up and coming games and especially around the Olympic torch. So,
we will have to wait and see what unfolds in the Chinese games.
Often people notice dramatic changes in their lives around solar eclipses,
leaving an impression which can have an effect for years to come. This
solar eclipse falls in Leo. So, people born around the 1st of August,
will feel the effect of this eclipse.
The Sun and Moon only have contact with Mercury and make no other
aspect to any of the other planets. The Moon eclipses the Sun and then
Mercury. These three planets are all located in the 10th house of the
chart. This configuration suggests something very public although we
may not hear about it straight away. What comes to mind is all the
stabbings that have been going on amongst our young people (here in
the UK) and l find myself asking what is going on? Have our young people
lost a sense of who they are? Who are their role models? Are they
feeling the pressure of not having any money? I’m hearing more and
more parents’ saying it’s difficult for these youngsters to get jobs.
The sign of Leo asks us to appreciate one another, to come together
and have fun, enjoyment and laughter. Leo is a very creative sign and
needs recognition and appreciation otherwise it can become easily offended
becoming dogmatic and arrogant.
The Libran ascendant says we need to find the balance, to be aware
of the other and not to have unreal expectations of others or ourselves.
This is reinforced by the Venus Neptune opposition which can give a
sense that the grass is greener on the other side. On 13th of August,
when Venus conjuncts Saturn, we could become painfully aware that things
aren’t what they seem to be.
The Full Moon on the 16th August is a partial eclipse and hopefully
the skies will be clear and we will see a full Moon rising partially
eclipsed. I do hope so.
This chart has a lot of oppositions suggesting that the area of growth
is in connection with others. Before we can become truly part of a
group we have to know ourselves first.
I leave with a quote.
Happy lunation’s,

On Children
Kahlil Gibran
“Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
But seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
As living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
And He bends you with His might
That His arrows may go swift and far.
Let our bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
So He loves also the bow that is stable.”
