New Moon - eclipse
7th February 2008 3.44am GMT
Sun at 17˚ 44 ' Aquarius
Moon at 17˚ 44 ' Aquarius
This chart and interpretation are set
for London, UK
I’m dedicating this Moonthly forecast to the memory of
my friend Suze da Blooze who was one of the most inspiring Aquarians
that I have known.
The first quiver within the earth has begun
The seeds that were planted in the earth at Samhain are appearing
everywhere. The snowdrops were the first to emerge and now the
yellow flowers of the primroses and daffodils have started to surface. I
often feel that yellow flowers that become visible in the northern
hemisphere at this time of year are the Earth’s promise that the Sun
will return.
On the 4th February the Sun was at 15˚ Aquarius marking
the midpoint between the winter solstice and spring equinox. This
ancient fire festival is known as Imbolc, the festival of renewal. The
days are noticeably longer and the earth is getting warmer. It’s time
to observe nature becoming greener.
The earth is the water carrier
At this time of year, all over the country our healing wells
are being decorated. Especially wells that are dedicated to St.Bride’s
or Bridget. I’d like to take time to honour the healing waters
of our springs and wells. They flow into our rivers, then into the
sea, and then evaporate, eventually becoming rain that, in turn, nourishes
our land. Water is so precious. It’s the elixir of life, the
blood of the earth.
The night sky
Mars, the red planet, has been the companion of our evening
skies. Close by is the wonderful constellation of Orion, the
hunter, chasing the Pleiades. There is a great epic story going
on in our heavens. Saturn is up if you’re still awake in the middle
of the night. Just before dawn, Venus rises conjunct Jupiter in the
south. Venus has been looking like a small crescent Moon. What
a fantastic sight.
Annular eclipses
The Aquarius new Moon is very powerful as it’s an annular
solar eclipse. The ancients saw eclipses as important portents
of future events. Having an ominous or prophetic significance. An
annular eclipse means that if we were able to view it from the British
Isles, the Sun wouldn’t be completely blocked out by the Moons shadow,
creating a ring of light around it, giving the Sun a halo.
Ancient history is filled with stories of how eclipses
ended battles and wars and how they were supposed to signify the birth
of important people. Often people notice dramatic changes in
their lives around solar eclipses, leaving an impression that can have
an effect for years to come.
This annular eclipse is followed by a total eclipse of
the full Moon on the 21st February. Hopefully, the skies will be clear
and we will be able to see this full Moon being eclipsed by the shadow
of the Earth.
Aquarius is the water bearer, pouring the waters
of human consciousness
Aquarius is the water bearer yet it is an air sign. They are
keyed into the collective thought, being concerned with the universal
truth. Both Saturn and Uranus rule Aquarius. Saturn gives structure
to the Aquarian thoughts whilst it’s Uranian side is very futuristic
and individualistic. Aquarius is the rebel of the zodiac who
likes to do things differently. Being a humanitarian sign, they
have ideas of how they can improve other peoples lives They are very
group orientated, taking a real interest in what other people think.
Although, sometimes, they can appear detached and aloof.
The chart of the new Moon has a strong emphasis
in Aquarius and the 2nd house
Winter is nearly at an end and folk are starting to come out of the
woodwork. People are reconnecting with each other and socializing
more. The Sun and Moon in Aquarius, trine Mars in Gemini suggests
that the flavour of this new Moon is about lots of shared communication
around new projects. There could be lots of new ideas about the generation
of energy ie solar and wind generators. Sadly, the government
is pushing for more nuclear power which has such a devastating effect
on the environment. The ingress of Pluto into Capricorn, which
is still in opposition to Mars, is asking us to re-evaluate how we
use the earth’s resources. We all need to come together to help our
planet.
Mars has been going retrograde since the middle of November
up until the end of January causing lots of frustration and mixed messages. However,
it is now going direct so by going over old ground those frustrations
will work themselves out.
Now Mercury has gone retrograde, aspecting Neptune, which
will create more delays and confusion around communication. This may
cause problems with machinery, especially computers, the Internet and
telephones. As I write, my telephone has gone on the blink and Radio
4 has just reported that the Inland Revenue has had to extend the tax
return deadline as their website had crashed.
All in all, this chart is asking us to value and appreciate
each other. Remember, to be able to value others we need to first
value ourselves. In his book, Cycles of Becoming, Alexander Ruperti
says that in order to have change it is necessary to have a crisis.
He goes on to say that the word “crisis” comes from the Greek word
“krino” which means to decide, a time for decision.
New Moons are a good time for sowing the seeds of new
possibilities.
Happy Imbolc and blessing of the new Moon to you all.
