New Moon
5th May 13.19 BST
Sun at 15˚ 22 ' Taurus
Moon at 15˚ 22 ' Taurus
If you look carefully there’s a beautiful blue hue that covers the
woodland floor. The blue bells are out; they have been out for a while
and are very early. The countryside is decorated with an amazing colour
of yellow, from all the fields that have rapeseed growing in them.
And in the skies the swifts have returned, how lovely it is to see
them; they have a really playful flight.
The night sky
Just after sunset, in the southwest, the beautiful big star
Sirius adorns the evening sky. It is really bright and twinkles different
colors of red, blue. green and yellow. Soon the Dog Star, as it is
known to the Dogon tribe of Africa, will disappear from our skies,
reappearing in the Autumn.
Mars and Saturn are still to be seen, and the other evening l was
up in the middle of the night and really low in the south l noticed
Jupiter. It was really good to see the big red giant again.
Beltane
We are half way between the spring equinox and summer solstice.
The cross quarter days are at 15˚of the fixed signs. They are the times
when nature responds to the energy changes that came into motion at
the solstices and equinoxes and are very visible in seasonal changes.
The 15˚of the fixed signs are 45˚away from 0˚of the cardinal sign’s
at the solstice and equinox points and are classed as power points
in time. The ancient people believed that the quarter days are about
the dissolution of the boundaries between the physical and the spiritual
that can lead to higher states of consciousness and are a good time
for shamanic journeys into other realms.
This particular ancient fire festival is known as Beltane and falls
when the sun is in Taurus. This is the time of high spring, a time
when nature is alive, vibrant and fertile. Humans, animals and plants
are sexually awake. The Earth is wearing her green garment, the goddess
is full of her plenty, the maypole is erect and there is love in the
air. Couples inter thread the ribbons of the maypole whilst dancing
around the phallus which is erect in the womb of the earth, the sap
rises and people have the urge to play and frolic. Everything is growing;
this is the festival of the goddess of love. There are wide spread
fornication to encourage the growing crops. May was a honeymoon of
sexual license, when marriage bonds were temporarily in abeyance.
The days are noticeably longer and the heavens warm and the earth blooms.
This is a time of growth and evaluation.
The chart of the new Moon
This new Moon falls right on the 15˚of Taurus, making it a
very powerful lunation. Taurus is a very sensual sign and is concerned
with the functions of the body. They are the builders of the zodiac
and are concerned with the practicalities of life. They are very conservative
with their energy and can sometimes border on being lazy. Taurians
don’t like to be rushed into anything and like to take their time.
They can be very stubborn and opinionative. Once they become attached
to either a person or an idea, they can find it very hard to let go.
Taurus ruler Venus is also in Taurus in a grand trine with Saturn
and Pluto. When there is a grand trine it often suggests an easy flowing
energy. Venus is the ruler of money and l think we will be seeing a
lot more issues around the state of the banking and the credit crunch.
I know lots of people are feeling the lack of abundance of money. The
cost of food has increased, fuel is at the highest it has ever been
and the people who are in the bracket of the least paid have been hit
by higher taxes. Rice has doubled in price and people in Egypt, India,
Mexico and the Philippines are all experiencing food shortages that
we can also expect to experience in the future. This brings up the
issue of sustainability. Luxury items will not be high on the shopping
list or seen as necessary.
With the Sun and Moon being in the 9th house, it’s a good time to
ground our philosophy about how we feed our bodies. Saturn in Virgo
certainly brings up the issue of how we service our selves and asks
us to look at the nutritional value of our food. The earth is asking
us to reconnect with her and honour her.
I leave you with a quote:
'Notice the Sun and the Moon as they rise and set. They are
remarkable for their steady pattern of movement, not their speed.' Take
it easy by Linus Mundy.
Blessings of the new Moon to you all
