New Moon
20th August 11:03 BST

Sun at 27˚ 32' Leo
Moon at 27˚ 32' Leo

The farmers are in the fields starting to bring in the harvest. The Sun has reached its highest point in the sky and is on its return journey to the south. The days are already noticeably shorter and the smell of autumn is in the air. The bright red berries and green leaves of Lords and Ladies add vibrant colour to the hedgerows. The luscious blackberries are coming to fullness. This is the time of plenty.  The reaping of the first harvest has begun.

The Night Sky.

I have been lucky to have been in a place were I have had amazing views of the sky. To watch Jupiter’s journey across the heavens has been fantastic. The Milky Way, the galaxy that we are part of, has been really bright. So many stars. They say there are more stars than grains of sand. I’ve been blessed with seeing quite a few shooting stars. The 13/14th August is the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Don’t forget to make a wish if you see a shooting star.
If you are still up at 2am, you will see the Pleiades in the sky. These stars are known as the markers of the seasons and herald the return of autumn. Soon Orion the hunter will be adorning the night sky once again. The great bear is still feasting from the earth and as the earth turns, so the seasons change and soon the bear’s feet will be pointing upwards, indicating the end of summer.

The new Moon chart.

As l watch the changing patterns of the heavens, I have the feeling that we are on the edge of a precipice of major change. Every day when I arrive at work I switch the computer on and watch the planets and the formations that they are making. On some levels it looks like everything is ok but the reality is that there is loads going on below the surface. Everything is not as it seems. Today I read in the papers that the financial situation has had another 50 million pound ploughed into it. The Bank of England itself has said that the recession is far from over and that we are in it deeper than we realized.
We have just been in a cycle of eclipses and what a powerful time that has been. Sometimes it can be months before we realize the effect this has had on us collectively. As l have mentioned in previous Moon reports, we are living in amazing times with unbelievable potential for change.

The Chart of the new Moon shows there is a challenging time ahead. There are quite a few oppositions reflecting the fact that people feel as though they are being pulled all over the place.

The Sun and Moon are together in the sign of Leo opposite Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune. Leo likes to be at the centre of thing and is mortally wounded if not appreciated. Leos need positive interaction and affirmation; they like to play and have fun. Here in England we have been experiencing massive changes in our weather and for the past 3 years we have had wet summers. I feel like the people need more time to play. Just recently one of the major festivals, the Big Green Gathering, was cancelled just days before it was due to start. This festival is dedicated to raising the consciousness of the people on an environmental level. Even though l was not going myself, I couldn’t believe it wasn’t getting the support of the local authorities to go ahead. What sort of statement is that giving? That “the powers that be” are not concerned with what’s going on on an environmental level? There are laws being passed in this country, especially affecting entertainment, that we the general public are not aware of. Leo rules the heart and its motto is “I create.”

The Sun and Moon are in the house that is associated with authority, opposite Neptune in the fourth, the house that is associated with the people and home. This aspect suggests there is an exploitation going on, that we are not aware of. Recent events like the revelations of the MPs’ abuses of the expenses system are only the tip of the iceberg.
Another opposition of Saturn and Uranus is rearing its head once again. This will be the 3rd time that these planets have come together and there will be another two hits in the months to come. Saturn is the taskmaster who asks us to lay firm boundaries. He is the one that gives us containment and helps us pass the tests of time. Uranus on the other hand likes freedom and breaking the rules. He asks us to be true to ourselves. Mercury and Mars are also involved in this combination. This gives the suggestion that something is going to be delayed that is related to health or studying or enjoyment of the young people.

There is a lovely aspect between Mercury and Venus. These two planets have been in this configuration for a couple of weeks, suggesting the need to communicate what we care about and what feeds us without falling into the trap of becoming too critical. All this leaves me with the feeling that the government has forgotten the voice of the people, who at this moment in time could have some of the solutions.

The challenging theme is still present in the full moon chart. Mercury and Mars are still in square to each other suggesting a time of forceful communication. Both charts reflect a division, a feeling of being pulled in two although we should bear in mind that at such times there exists the greatest opportunity for a growth in our awareness.
I leave you with a quote from one of my favourite astrology books, “Principles of Astrology” by Charles and Suzi Harvey. They talk about the opposition, saying “if the Sun is in opposition to Neptune, for example, there will be a constant tug between the desire for purposeful, individual self expression [Sun] and a tendency to abandon oneself to float on the great sea of life and the collective unconscious [Neptune]. The individual [Sun] will either be fed by the collective and become immensely creative, insightful and imaginative, or fall in and drown.”

Blessings of this really powerful time to you. Linda Day.
