New Moon 18th October 06:34 BST

Sun at 24° 59' Libra
Moon at 24° 59' Libra

This is my favourite time of year; the time of the falling leaves.  The hedgerows are once again full of colour as Nature puts on her fantastic display of different shades of red, orange, yellow and brown. The only crop left standing in the fields is corn. The potatoes are being brought in by the tractor-load and the apples are being harvested. This is the time of plenty.
There is a freshness in the air and the landscape starts to reveal its hidden secrets. In Herefordshire we have already had our first fog and frost. The nights are drawing in fast. Winter is on its way.

The Night sky

The sunsets have been fantastic, washing the heavens with the most amazing shades of red that reflect the autumnal changes on the earth. The light of the dawn is also very special at this time of year. Watching the full moon was a real treat; it had a really big halo around it, which I felt was a sign of the weather changing. Sure enough, the temperature dropped rapidly in the following days.
In the night sky Jupiter is still shining bright. In the early hours Mars is there to be seen and if you’re up before dawn, you will see the Venus/Saturn conjunction.

The chart of the New Moon

This is a very powerful time we are living in. There is so much significant activity occurring in the heavens and what is happening down here on earth is reflecting that. The times of change are upon us. Planetary cycles that have been developing slowly over many years are reaching a critical point. This is just the beginning of a momentous few years.
The new Moon falls in the sign of Libra and is in powerful aspect both to Mars and to the Moon’s node. Libra is the sign of balance and is ruled by Venus, the planet of harmony, social relationships, beauty and love. Venus is also the planet that rules money and values. Libra is an air sign and can be very rational, valuing equality and justice. So, you may ask, where is the justice of the people? This week, the main topic of conversation with the people I meet has been the financial situation. Is the crisis over? No. Have there been any real solutions to what’s been going on? No. This new Moon reveals that money matters will back in the headlines. Venus is both the chart ruler and also the ruler of the Libran Sun and Moon; by the time of the new Moon, she will have been in challenging aspects with both Saturn and Pluto. We are being asked to find the balance and readdress our values. With Mars also being involved in the equation, people could be feeling really frustrated and we could see tempers running high.

There is a saying that it’s better to have health than wealth. Questions come to mind about whether the whole swine flu issue is a smoke screen to distract from the uncomfortable reality of the financial situation? The Sun and Moon are in a trine aspect to the Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune conjunction. The people need something to bring them together, something that unites them. What has happened to the spirit of the community? Electronic communications make it easy to share ideas and information with people on the other side of the world, but we no longer talk to our neighbours in the street. The benefits of human contact are being lost. Sharing and hearing one another gives us amazing opportunities for growth. I really feel the power is with the people.
There is a developing Saturn Pluto square, due to reach exactitude in the first degrees of the cardinal signs. In Mundane astrology, this is said to coincide with major changes in the world at large. In the headlines of one of the papers this week it said that this is a time of austerity, which I think sums up the energy of this up and coming square. Austerity means “a saving, economy, or act of self denial in respect of something regarded as a luxury”. Maybe the government and banking bosses could take this on - surely that would put some money back in the coffers.

For the full moon l leave you with a quote from Tchenka from Astro Calendar 2009. “Unexpected revelations concerning the misuse of resources or power may lead us to question and change certain relationships, agreements and even the law itself. Events beyond our personal control are likely to force our hand. “

Blessings of this powerful time Linda Day. P.S thank you Felicity for your valuable and thought provoking conversations.
