New Moon 18th September 19:45 BST
Sun at 26°
00' Virgo
Moon at 26° 00' Virgo
I love the colours of autumn. The reds, yellows and
browns reflect the transition that is going on in nature.
The hawthorns are bursting with red berries, making the
hedgerows really colourful. The rowan can have many different
coloured fruits. They are white, yellow or red. Next
time you are next to a rowan tree take time to look at
its fruit, for at the bottom of the berry there is a
lovely star. The orchards are full with different types
of food. Apples, Damsons and Plums are but a few to be
named. It’s time to celebrate the abundance of the earth.
The harvest is almost in. The fields are being ploughed
and the red earth is once again being exposed. Everything
seems to be changing so fast. The nights are drawing
in and the leaves are rapidly changing colour. In fact
some trees have already started dropping their foliage.
The sap is retreating and the earth is preparing to rest.
The Night sky
Once again l have been blessed with spending lots of time
outside. The night sky has been fantastic. One night I
lay on the ground and marveled at how many stars there
were to be seen. The Milky Way has been a constant companion
and I have been really lucky to have seen so many shooting
stars. The Pleiades are up in the sky by midnight and herald
the return of autumn. Later Orion the hunter rises. How
fantastic it is to see this beautiful constellation once
again. Venus is the morning star. How bright she shines
and of course Jupiter is there to be seen after sunset.
The chart of the New Moon
This is a very powerful lunation. The new Moon occurs
3 days after the third opposition of Saturn and Uranus,
almost at the degree of the opposition, making this
new Moon very poky indeed. The new Moon occurs in
the sign of Virgo in the sixth house, both of which
are ruled by the planet Mercury which has been retrograde
since the 7th of September. So expect delays with
communication, letters going missing or problems
with computers. Mercury is the messenger of the Gods
and the only one who is allowed to enter the underworld.
Mercury likes to make connections and distribute
information. There are many sides to Mercury, one
of them being the trickster. Charles and Suzi Harvey
say that one of his purposes is to bring to consciousness
the inherent opposites within human nature and life
itself. Virgo is the sign that likes order and that
needs everything to be in its place at the right
time, especially now whilst Saturn is in Virgo. I
read in the papers that certain councils are going
to be fining people who put out their rubbish bins
too early. I suppose the councils that have over
spent on their budgets or have lost money in their
dealings with dodgy investments have to recuperate
their money somehow.
Saturn in Virgo seems to be having a hay day with all the new laws that are coming
into place. If we are not careful we will tie ourselves up in knots. I hear a
lot of people saying they are really tired and feeling weary. Saturn in Virgo
asks us to look at our relationship with work. How we give service not only to
others but also to our selves. Saturn is the lord of time. What ever happened
to creative time and time for introspection? Saturn is good at organizing time
and so is Virgo and they both also like respect. So we are being asked to give
ourselves more time and respect our bodies and in turn this will give us the
capacity to connect more with our beautiful planet Earth.
The Saturn/Uranus aspect reflects a real struggle between what has been tried
and tested and the potential of new possibilities, giving the feeling of being
pulled in two directions at once. Saturn can fear change and Uranus can throw
the baby out with the bath water.
Saturn is the taskmaster who asks us to lay firm boundaries. He is the one that
gives us containment and helps us pass the tests of time. Uranus, on the other
hand, likes freedom and breaks the rules. He asks us to be true to ourselves.
Sue Tomkins says this combination is productive of great determination, perseverance,
extraordinary will power and strength.
In Mundane astrology the sixth house rules the workers, the employed classes,
the civil service and the health of society. This new Moon and the configuration
of Saturn and Uranus reflect a great potential for change in all the areas mentioned
above.
The Autumn Equinox 22nd September 2009
The autumn equinox marks the decent of the sun into the southern hemisphere and
is the start of its journey south. “Equinox” comes from the word equal, which
means to be equally balanced. This marks an important turning point in the seasons
in the year. It is now time to take stock, time to come back into our selves.
The Full Moon 4th October 2009
The Moon is in Aries and the Sun is in Libra, again raising the issue of finding
the balance. Aries is the pioneer and Libra is the peacekeeper. I leave you
with a quote from Charles and Suzi Harvey from their book “Sun sign, Moon sign.”
Their image for the integration of this combination of Sun and Moon says. “A
little girl and a little boy barter whilst playing on a see-saw. She wants
his toy gun; he wants her cream cake. They decide to share.”
Blessing of this time to you all Linda Day.
