The
Tsunami chart
Reading by Aria
The chart for the Tsunami speaks volumes about the power manifested
by Chiron. There are still many astrologers who don't recognize
its validity, but working with this chart we'll soon realize
how powerfully its position is manifested. For all of those
who have been integrating this new "planetary energy"
or "archetype", it will come as no big surprise
that Chiron's presence is so predominant, as its position
marks the "chirotic point" as defined by Barbara
Hand Clow in her stunning book: Chiron, Rainbow Bridge Between
The Inner and Outer Planet. I've always been drawn to a kind
of more esoteric approach to astrology and Chiron itself lends
its divinatory power to this particular reading. I am a great
fan of Barbara Hand Clow's astrological work, and her book
on Chiron is, in my opinion, the most thorough, inspirational,
and comprehensive. (All direct quotations are found in brackets)
Chiron was born from an illicit union between Kronos (Saturn),
who took the form of a horse and Phiria, a sea nymph. Consequently
Chiron is half animal and half human, and he is of Earth and
Sea. His grandparents are Uranus-father sky and Gaia the Earth
mother. (3).From this mythological information we attune to
the very essence of this archetypal energy interaction. This
reading is the result of my wondering on the magnitude of
the event itself coupled with the intrinsic realisation that
the wound manifested by the Tsunami with the loss of so many
lives, is also a manifestation of the inner wound to the planet
identity, Gaia, represented by the (unseen) earthquake under
the Asian ocean. But the most important aspect of this event
is the magnitude of the number of people that have been brought
together as collective victims of the Tsunami. That in itself
is a very mysterious thing. And this particular detail made
me instantly think of a "star gate opening". Strangely
enough, I did check Chiron's position, although in traditional
astrology, earthquakes are ruled by Pluto and are thus associated
with its destructive force. As clearly stated by Barbara Hand
Clow, Chiron represents the specific point that identifies
the maximum pressure on the structural body, as well as the
most inner wound in the psychological make up:
"Chiron rules the focal time and place of multidimensional
consciousness on the physical plane, the ultimate trigger
of compassion on the emotional plane, the exact point of insight
on the mental plane, and the maximum point of mysticism on
the soul plane. Therefore, all those dimensions including
higher dimensions above the soul are focalized into the house
that Chiron inhabits"(3)
Because of Chiron's prominent placement, we can now understand
that the nature of this event signals a profound ecological,
spiritual crisis. This was my first realisation as I pondered
on the alarming news updating the number of deaths. Chiron
in the1st house of identity is in opposition to Saturn, hinting
at the fact that we are really running out of time. As we
hear more alarming news on a daily basis about the dire situation
of our planet, it's easy to understand the precipitation of
events once rare, as they are becoming more frequent and their
destructive powers are reaching epic proportions. Thus, Chiron
is once again, as in the past, the great initiator, the wounded
and the healer. All heroes of ancient times were taught and
initiated by this great centaur. Chiron spiritualizes, he's
the teacher of the soul; this chart offers the key to unlocking
the true meaning of this crisis and shows the cosmic master
plan. Now let's take a look at the chart:
Chiron is in the 1st house in Capricorn, and the most relevant
aspect is the almost exact opposition to Saturn (ruler of
form and structure) in Cancer. Barbara Hand Clow regards Chiron's
opposition as: "the full manifestation of the planets
involved...the planet opposite Chiron, is activated into an
awareness crisis." (153)Chiron is found in the first
quadrant, the East (!) which represent the most subjective
area of the chart referring to the problem of a conscious
recognition of our role in being part of this crisis. The
first house in Capricorn demands conscious identification
and a responsible attitude. Chiron in Capricorn is connected
with Saturn in Cancer in the Me/You relationship axis. Who
we are in respect to the "other" of the 7th house,
is a question worth asking ourselves; here, we are very exposed
and very visible. Furthermore, the Cancer/Capricorn polarity
reveals that the structures of society at large and of the
big human family with its inherent structures are what are
disintegrating. I also intuit that this crisis is touched
by a spiritual call because of the numinous quality of Chiron.
The Moon @ 28 in Gemini, (media/communications) forms a quincunx
aspect with Chiron, illuminating the healing qualities of
the 6th house. I agree with Barbara's proposed rulership of
Chiron for the 6th house: it just works! The Gemini Moon here
represents the masses, the sympathetic, evolved beings, who,
alerted through the media, quickly responded to the appeals
broadcasted all over the world, and promptly gave their most
generous donations.
The sixth is also considered to be the house of service and
purification, the ever stressful quincunx aspect functions
demanding awareness to "adjust" and to heal our
emotional bodies as well as that of the planet itself, our
home. The Moon in opposition aspect to Pluto resonates with
huge transforming power, but also sheds light on the intelligent
and compassionate work of the community, echoing the Aquarian
nature of the 11th house and with Neptune's position in Aquarius
in the first. The relationship we have with the environment,
and the problematic aspects of the structural crisis of modern
man's living conditions, are also highlighted: issues like
ecological balance, respect for our home-earth-Capricorn-family-Cancer,
and the urgent necessity to envision ways of healing, bearing
in mind that these changes will have to be implemented encompassing
all the different aspects of life on earth. We all have to
be bold and radical again.
Again, Chiron by its position, aspect and house polarity refers
to the wound in our planet, our home; and to the emotional
wound in Gaia consciousness. Earth, positioned right opposite
the Sun, @ 4 degrees Cancer, is speaking to us! In true Chirotic
fashion, we can't see the wound located under the sea, all
we see is the pain and the destructive power brought by the
Tsunami.
Barbara H.C. poignantly points to Chiron as our guide to help
us access dimensions beyond the physical realm. According
to esoteric astrology, Capricorn and Cancer are considered
"gates of incarnation", the two signs being symbolic
of the most fundamental structures of our own very existence
and functions on this planet: home and family. Ultimately
Cancer represents the "big" human family, whereas
Capricorn defines our tasks and limitations. Chiron, the Wounded
Healer, indicates the wound in the body of our first mother-form,
Earth. This wound needs healing, not persistent infliction,
it exists buried deep within our structures, pointing to the
profound imbalance we've reached in our lives, and in society
on a global scale.
The Sun's position @ 04 Capricorn, in the 12th house, highlights
what is passing but still holds us back; it's the unfinished
business of the 12th house, and our karmic debts. The key
words for the 12th house are: disintegration, dissolution
and bliss. Neptune, ruler of the ocean's realm, is in Aquarius,
calling the dreamers to dream different dreams, and then integrate
them in our conscious reality, reminding us of the necessity
to free ourselves in intelligent ways from any structures,
ideas/ideals that have become obsolete; the key word is: re-creation.
Uranus in Pisces assists this process from the third house:
sudden and unsuspected news in the next six years will be
perhaps connected with the watery realm.
I have already introduced the more graphic role of the Moon
in Gemini in the 6th .My understanding here, is that we've
got freedom of choice. Gemini is a human sign, Air, its quality,
implies intelligence. Communication is important, but all
our senses and faculties need to be used intelligently at
a higher level. The highly discriminative qualities of the
Virgoan house are required.
The 7th house rules our capacity to relate with the "other"
and the "outer reality. Cancer in the cusp informs us
of what is needed and what is going to work: nurturing and
protection of our home is a priority task for mother Earth
and all her life forms.
Mars @ 00 Sagittarius marks the beginning of the spiritual-warrior-hero
quest. The 11th, house of hopes, wishes, true friendship and
gifts, suggests that singular initiative will work wonders
and it will manifest itself in accordance with intelligent
work undertaken in innovative ways with friends, in groups
and with a high dose of idealism. We desperately need it.
Venus @ 11degrees Sagittarius in the 11th house sends her
harmonizing and beneficial rays accentuating emotional receptivity.
Venus is conjunct Mercury, highlighting the importance of
the media appeals in moving quick emotional sympathy and individual
response; (single, private donations exceeded government aid).
At the highest part of the chart, Jupiter sits in its natural
9th house, the house of higher learning. In Vedic astrology
Jupiter is the "Guru", or the "Teacher".
The 9th house task reminds us of bigger vistas, better ideas
and higher philosophies. Integration of spirit belongs to
the work of the 9th house. Libra on the 10th house cusp further
restates the need for greater balance and harmony. The teaching
of this house is about higher dimensions, and in this respect,
Jupiter's position indicates a form of ascension, giving us
the right symbolic meaning for the event: I believe the people
that have left this plane/t are now in a higher dimension. The
Moon Nodes track our spiritual direction, amplifying the tone
vibration of the chart. The Taurus North Node, retrograde,
points to the divine manifestation of the earth Goddess: Gaia.
It reminds us that earth is the only home we've got, and we'd
better take care of it. A value system (2nd house echo) which
is going to be integrated in more inclusive ways within our
very essence must be found and manifested (IC/MC axis). With
the South Node @ 00 in Scorpio in the 10th house we know that
this crisis is very profound. We can't go much deeper than
this; we must review our commitment to those kinds of values
which we think are relevant for our times and for our own
very future, and then we must finely attune to the new vibration
and resonate with it at a very deep level, in our very deep
root system, of the tree of life (4th/10house). The South
Node at 00 Scorpio reads: "Transmute or die". Very
Plutonian indeed.
Libra on the MC speaks of a greater balance that must be achieved
in all our relations: with our fellow men and with all forms
of life on planet Earth.
Pluto in Sagittarius has been active for a good number of
years. It has been shaking us up in the big cauldron, stirring
the black magic of the rigidity of our belief system: the
lethal plans of the old patriarchal fundamentalist religions/politics
that are re-shaping the legal and geographical landscape are
not going to work. As we view the 9th house task of spiritual
integration as denominated by our own research and understanding,
we are also capable of seeing clearly that new objectives,
new ideals, must be brought forward.
Barbara Hand Clow reveals that Chiron is "the Rainbow
Bridge", because it links the inner planets, which represent
personal issues, with the outer planets, which represent transpersonal
issues. Its placement in the natal chart show where and how
realities intersect: "It is a key into a mundane zone
where multidimensionality can be accessed. It is a doorway
into feelings about events, knowledge of why something occurs,
and a revelation of the cosmic influence"(xvii). This
chart clearly shows how deeply our personal environment is
reflected by the events manifested on a global scale. More
importantly it shows how "chirotic" the times we
now living are.
