The New Moon in Cancer is the Moon at home. Here in her own watery realm her power is unquestionable. Restoration and replenishment flows from the moment of the solstice and the Sun’s return to the house of the Moon. Intentions set now are cradled in a devoted womb and protected with a maternal ferocity.
Retrograde Mercury in Cancer, sitting a respectful couple of degrees behind the divine Mother and Father reminds us that new beginnings do not have to be built from nothing. Jupiter, having recently travelled through Cancer, now sits just next door in the Sun’s home of Leo, amplifying warmth, loyalty and generous abundance. Chiron in Taurus makes a square aspect to Jupiter. Jupiter opposes Pluto in Aquarius. It takes a village to raise a child. As eternal children of Mother Earth we all continue to need a supportive community to challenge us and help us grow to our full potential.
The New Moon in the sign of family brings confrontational questions to the surface of our psyche. Where do we feel truly at home? Is family a collection of souls travelling together? A chosen tribe aligned with a shared intention? Or is our bloodline what really binds us? How much choice do we get to choose the path we travel? How much power do we have to change history?
Beneath the shell of this sign lies a long memory and a refusal to let go of what truly matters. Cancer does not abandon what it loves. It gathers it in, keeps it safe, and when the tide is right, carries it back to shore.
Intentions set now are not wishful thinking but a re-commitment to what matters. Reflecting back is what clears the waters of the future. At the heart of this New Moon there is a secret hope, buried so deep it has almost been forgotten. Now we are invited by the cosmos to connect to that wish in our own hearts. What have we protected with all of our might? Is it now ready to grow?
We live in a culture which is quick to demolish and replace. We are conditioned to declare things beyond repair, to weigh up the cost of keeping hold of attachments with the convenience of a replacement. Old kettles may not be worth repairing but what about our connections? Mars in Gemini is swift to take action. Venus in Virgo asks us what is worth mending. What did we put down, in survival mode, that we are now strong enough to pick back up? Where can faith be restored?
This is not the cosmic signature of a brand new chapter. It is the signature of a rebirth. Plans which were shelved, dreams which were paused and conversations which were left mid-sentence are surfacing now for reconsideration. The wisdom we have earned is ready to be applied in retrograde to our deepest self. A renovation project begins. We are not starting from scratch but gathering love and hope which has been scattered on the wind to be planted properly. Nurtured into being, blessed with lunar love.
Revisiting the parts of ourselves which still seek acceptance. Survival requires self-protection. The more vulnerable we feel the tougher our shell becomes. This New Moon encourages us to welcome home the warrior versions of our past selves. When we trust ourselves, our own intuition and ability to do what is right without abandoning our own needs we are safe enough to set down our armour. Mars in flexible Gemini stretches with relief. Heaviness and weariness are ready to be washed away by the soothing waters of Cancer.
The chart of this New Moon doubles its own message. The lunation falls at 21 degrees of Cancer while the Ascendant rises at 21 degrees of Virgo, echoing the same degree across the chart. Virgo rising makes Mercury the ruler of this entire lunation, and Mercury, retrograde and conjunct the New Moon cannot help but bring up and point out what has not yet been healed from the past. With Virgo on the Ascendant, restoration is not a nostalgic daydream but a methodical craft. Repairs are made stitch by stitch. Reconnection comes through uncomfortable conversation.
Uranus, freshly settled in Gemini, forms a near exact trine to Pluto and a sextile to Jupiter, while retrograde Neptune in Aries trines Jupiter and sextiles Pluto in turn. Support flows around this opposition like water finding its way around a stone. Where do we take up space, and where do we settle into a place we can claim as home?
Saturn, now travelling through the middle degrees of Aries and separated from its meeting with Neptune, casts a wide square towards the luminaries. Some of what is being restored will need structural work, not just a fresh coat of paint. That is not a reason to be discouraged. It is a reason to be thorough.
The mean Node, meanwhile, sits at the closing degrees of its long passage through Pisces, asking us to complete our spiritual housekeeping. Forgiveness, compassion and closure are the loose ends being tied.
This New Moon in Cancer is proof that nothing loved is ever wasted. What we restore, we honour. When we return to what still matters and commit to its repair, we plant our intentions in soil that has already been worked, softened and made ready. The past is not a weight. Held and reframed with the right support it is the foundation of our becoming.

Settle yourself somewhere that feels safe. Move as much as you need to until your body softens. Notice your breath, exactly as it is. There is no particular way you need to breathe. Your body has been breathing for you since before you can remember. It knows what it is doing. Let it carry you.
Somewhere inside you there is a room. It is warm and familiar, even if you have not visited for a while. In this room is something you once loved. A plan. A dream. A version of you. It has been kept safe here all this time, waiting patiently, without resentment. Nothing precious is ever truly lost. Go to it now, gently. You do not need to fix anything today. You only need to visit.
With every breath you release, let go of any guilt about the time that has passed. Some of what you release may be recent. Some may be so old that you have forgotten where it began. Let it all out equally. There is no schedule here. Take your time.
With every breath in, welcome back a little of what was waiting. Feel how it still fits. Notice what it has been quietly teaching you while you were away. You are allowed to want it again. You are allowed to begin again from here, with everything you now know.
The tide always returns to the shore. Whatever you choose to restore will be nurtured, held and protected. You are held. You are home. You are safe. You are whole. You are loved, deeply, and you have everything you need to bring what matters back to life.
