New Moon in Cancer 25th June 11:32 BST Full Moon in Capricorn 10th July
Cancer is the sign of the zodiac which cares so deeply that it envelops the softness of its heart beneath a tough outer shell. It may look impenetrable but do not be fooled by an appearance of tough love. Look beneath and you will see the purity of compassion.
We all pretend to care much less than we really do. We feel the need to put on an armour of protection wherever we feel the softest. The more vulnerable we perceive ourselves to be, the more energy we put into hiding from that feeling. We all do this, in some form. We downplay the tenderness that aches in us, we dismiss the lump in our throat, we learn to laugh something off when, deep down, it hurts. Why? Because to feel is to risk. To feel is to open. And in a world that so often rewards detachment and defends disconnection, being emotionally present can feel like walking around without skin. What we seem to forget though, is that this vulnerable softness, the compassion and empathy that we all have within us, is not a weakness. It is this core of light and love which actually is our greatest strength. It is powerful.
To be able to look at a world which so often seems callous and difficult and to refuse to run away and hide forever requires enormous bravery. This New Moon highlights the power we all have to choose to live and love from the heart. To know that ‘getting hurt’ is nothing to be afraid of. Your shell is your protection. It keeps your heart soft enough to nurture and to heal.
This New Moon is in almost exact conjunction with Jupiter, the planet of good fortune, expansion, optimism and faith. Jupiter doesn’t do anything in small measures. It amplifies what it touches. And in this case, it amplifies our empathy. It expands our emotional awareness. It brings humour and generosity to spaces where we’ve been self-protecting. And perhaps most importantly, it infuses the intentions we set now with a benevolent, encouraging energy. This is fertile ground for emotional healing.
Mercury, now at 28 degrees of Cancer, approaches an opposition with retrograde Pluto. This suggests that the truth is on its way with a powerful emotional reckoning. What has been avoided needs to be addressed. Pluto asks us to look at the shadows—those parts of ourselves or our relationships that we’d rather not examine too closely. But there’s no need for fear. What’s brought into awareness now can be transformed. If a conversation comes, let it come. If something needs to be said, say it. Your words have the power to create space for honesty and real healing.
This lunation makes a Square to both Saturn and Neptune in Aries. These two powerful planets are only one degree apart. Riding in tandem as they set out the terms for a new era, they present a challenge to the collective. What will we do about what we care about? This is a square that tests emotional maturity. Can you hold your dreams and responsibilities in the same breath? Can you be brave enough to commit to the things that matter to you, even when it feels hard? Saturn demands structure for our compassion. It doesn’t want us to love less. It wants us to love with intention, and with integrity. To be committed to what we say matters, and to walk that truth with real courage.
We cannot choose to have less love. To feel less. But we can create boundaries which ensure that our energy flows only in a direction where it can support us to grow. You do not need to dim your light or love less. You don’t need to stop caring. Caring is not a problem to be solved. It is a reminder of your infinite loving power and the potential of human empathy to change the world, for the better.
The emotional intensity of this New Moon isn’t here to destabilise you. You can’t un-feel what you feel. But you can always choose where to channel your empathy and your love. Turn it inwards first. Honour the boundaries which protect your heart and your peace. You can decide which parts of your past need to be released and which parts are ready to be nurtured.
To care is not foolish. To feel is not failure. In fact, it’s the refusal to stop caring, even in the face of exhaustion or heartbreak, that often marks the bravest among us. It’s easy to become hard and cynical when the world disappoints you. But to stay soft – to remain open to love, beauty, kindness, and empathy – that’s the revolution.
Guided Meditation Make yourself comfortable. Allow yourself to notice your breath as you let it go. Every breath you release makes space for new abundance to be nurtured within you. Within you is an ocean of feeling. You understand this sea. It belongs to you. It responds to your presence, your rhythm, your breath.
You may have been battered by storms and yet still you are here. Still you are compassionate. Still you are loving and protective where it counts. What a blessing.
Your ocean of feeling is vast and powerful. But you are the master of this sea. You can harness the power of the waves. You are brave enough to face the surge of any storm. You are floating on a little boat of divine protection. It is sturdy. Safe. Familiar. It has carried you before, even through storms.
You have the key to the cosy cabin of a sturdy boat. No matter how much the storm around you may rage, you can choose at any moment to retreat back to where you are safe. Because you are always, eternally, safe and protected.
New Moon Blessing May you live and love from the heart and honour the depth of your emotion.
