Gemini, the sign of duality, rules the mind. Ruled by Mercury, the winged messenger, Gemini flits between polarities: logic and emotion, past and future, reason and instinct. This is a sign that plays with contradictions not to confuse but to explore. It wants to know what happens when we loosen our grip on certainty just enough to let a conversation begin which allows us to learn more. A New Moon in Gemini marks the beginning of a conscious cycle of change. Setting intentions around communication supports us on our path towards a higher potential.
This lunation is playful and curious. It is in this state that real learning, about ourselves and how we relate to others, can take place. When we are curious enough to ask ‘why’, we begin the process of understanding. This understanding, along with trust and compassion, is essential to the way we relate to one another.
The Gemini Moon is restless. But it offers us comfort from what has felt confusing. As our closest celestial body rejuvenates herself in the light of the Sun, what has been painful and illogical is wiped out with a clear, unequivocal truth. Sometimes opposites are not there to make us doubt anything. Certainly not ourselves. Polarity allows for energy to flow and this flowing state is what carries life forward. It allows for progress to be made through the infinite process of learning.
The Sun and Moon, in brilliant conjunction in this Air sign, create a powerful seed of thought which has the potential to change everything. Mercury approaches the Moon with an important message about truth and how we communicate it. A harmonious Trine connection to Pluto emerges. The planet of truth and transformation is now retrograding back over the first few degrees of radical Aquarius. A question is posed to the collective. ‘Who is telling the truth?’ ‘What needs to change?’
This lunation falls under a sky crackling with tension and potential. A new era is beginning as Neptune and now Saturn, set a new cycle into motion as they cross the threshold into Aries, the first fire sign of the zodiac.
Uranus is nearing the final chapters of its disruptive time in Taurus, the sign of stability and tradition. This New Moon becomes a kind of cosmic announcement: a whisper from the future, letting us know that change is coming.
Of course, not all communication requires chatter or the exchange of words. Our subconscious minds are capable of bridging the gap between our innermost truth and a source of higher power. We sense energy, change, and truth, even in silence.
How do we hold opposites in our mind and develop the flexibility and strength that it takes to be able to move between extremes and resolve conflict? Saying what you mean, and meaning what you say, can be revolutionary. There’s meaning to be found in patterns, power in truth, and clarity in the questions we’re brave enough to ask.
This lunation is not just important for us as individuals. By connecting to Pluto, this Moon is highlighting an unspoken code which underpins the world we live in. This prompts an opportunity for radical transformation. Not through force, but awareness
“I think, therefore I am,” said Descartes. But this Moon offers something deeper. We all think, therefore, we can all evolve. Consciously. Thinking is what allows for feelings to be identified. When we open up, we can be curious enough to see what lies in our hearts. To connect to what we need for ourselves and from others. This is what allows for love to grow.
The mind is not separate from the heart – it’s a bridge between our soul and the greater spirit. This New Moon asks us to cross that bridge with care, clarity and courage.
Venus in Aries, and Mars in Leo, form a Trine. An easy, supportive link between the two lovers of the zodiac. Fire signs don’t love quietly. Venus in Aries wants passion; Mars in Leo demands loyalty. Together, they remind us that to love fully, we must be brave. Loyalty isn’t blind obedience, it’s the courage to keep showing up and making the choice to love, even when it is not comfortable or easy.
This New Moon in Gemini allows us to face up to contradiction without seeing it as something which confronts our sense of security. It is a moment to recognise that we are all at once both more complicated than we could ever fathom and yet our needs are childlike. Simple. We all want to be understood. We all deserve love. Thinking clearly under this New Moon allows us to learn to love ourselves, and each other, with the bravery it takes to make a powerful positive change.
Guided Meditation
When I was growing up, meditation was described to me as ‘switching off your mind’. Isn’t that impossible?! Well actually, yes. Is that really what we are supposed to be doing in order to find peace?! Of course not. There is no special secret technique to meditation. There is no magic ritual of ‘doing it right’. The secret to connecting to yourself, your inner wisdom, and all the universe is not being gatekept by any guru. You have everything you need in your own body and heart. Notice that even while you have been reading or listening to me talk about meditation, your heart has kept beating. Your lungs have sustained your existence. Breath by breath. You do not need to breathe according to how anybody else suggests. Just notice that you are breathing. Always. Allow yourself to sit in gratitude for the breath which comes and goes, time after time. This is life. Within you. You are connected to the world around you and all the magic of its energy. Now, if you wish, imagine yourself looking up to the sky. Take your attention down to your toes and notice where your feet connect to this earth.
Allow yourself a moment to pay attention to how your body feels as you breathe in the fresh air. If there is tension, imagine it being blown away by a warm, gentle breeze. Little fragments of stress are floating away now. You don’t need to cling to them. Let them blow away. Trust that allowing yourself to relax in the absence of these worries is safe. You are safe. You are protected. You are loved beyond all measure. Nothing you think can change that. Allow your thoughts to come and let them go, just like your breath.
