New Moon in Libra 2nd October 19:49
Full Moon in Aries 17th October
The New Moon in Libra is also a solar eclipse. In the chart, Saturn, Mars and Venus form a Grand Trine across the water signs, with Mars in Cancer, Venus in Scorpio and Saturn still in Pisces. This is a wave of cosmic encouragement, asking us to move intuitively, to go with the flow, follow our instincts and to be guided by how we feel. The dynamic between Mars, Venus and Saturn, combined with the Libran New Moon eclipse brings a spotlight on our relationships with others. How we feel about our partnerships, both romantic and platonic, will dictate what begins now. What we care about, where we direct our passion and who we choose to share this journey with is at the heart of the ideas and plans which spring from this seed point. This eclipse brings revelations and changes related to who we feel we can trust and where we find support. Libra is an Air sign – there is rationality to this moment in celestial time but the emotional, watery Grand Trine is powerful too. How can we combine these forces to bring about positive changes? Libran energy bubbles like a spring of clarity. Eclipses clear blockages and reveal truth. This New Moon is lightening up heavy conversations by insisting that it is time to share the load. It is illuminating where we can lean for support and how we can move forward with others.
Bad moods and old emotional wounds are countered with clear perspective and a focus on creating something which feels co-operative. Where there is tension, this New Moon is determined to tease out truth, and to forge into a future which is focused on what feels fair.
Mars in Cancer squares this Libra New Moon. Where we’re ready to make plans which keep everybody happy, Mars wants us to act protectively. The most important thing for this planet now, is a safe place to call home. The Grand Trine formation across the sky is like a whirlpool, sucking us into a vortex of feeling. Mars is on alert in Cancer. Poised with polished claws, it’s ready for us to follow our gut feelings even if that means we look a little closed off. Mars in Cancer can tough out the most hostile of circumstances to protect its home and family. This eclipse is revealing a way in which we can iron out wrinkles of disagreement and change the sheets on a bed which many might have believed was already made.
The New Moon, Sun and Mercury form a powerful stellium which is centered on smart thinking and resolution. These three are working together to get our heads together with others, to co-operate and work out a way forward. But, with Libra’s ruling planet Venus in Scorpio, do not underestimate the power of inner passion or the steps people will take to keep themselves protected under this eclipse.
This lunation is keen for us to keep how we really feel under a smooth veneer of Libran charm. If Mercury and the Sun are keeping a charmingly cool head in Libra, Venus, at 11 degrees of Scorpio, represents our hearts and, with Mars and Saturn’s backing, she is unwilling to compromise too much for just a quiet life. In this sign, Venus would rather perish and have to rebirth herself through fire than to live a life where her passions are left unfulfilled. Saturn, tired of Piscean tides, still insists upon some order to the chaos of feeling. Compassionately, this planet, in its wisdom, suggests that we draw boundaries, not battle lines.
Under this Grand Trine which is so emotionally motivated, it might feel easy to cast off to sea and throw caution to the wind. Luckily though, that same wind is blowing through the honey-soaked lips of Air sign Libra. Good manners and communication are the only keys we need to open a multitude of doors. The sweet harmonies of this Libra stellium soften Mars’ stance with a gentle lullaby. In Aries, Chiron also makes a square to Mars. Though ready to fight for what is right, Mars feels held back from upsetting the apple cart unnecessarily. Between Chiron’s bittersweet nostalgia, amplified by a sextile to Jupiter in Gemini, and the New Moon’s promise of an easier future, the only option seems to be to retreat beneath rough waves for now. But the grip of Cancerian Mars should not be underestimated. If those we care about are under threat we are being given a welcome boost of energy to keep battling.
The Libran Moon, conjoined with inquisitive Mercury, teases out the truth of our emotions. It is questioning why we carry what we do, asking us to think about how we feel in order to process it therapeutically. By considering what we are afraid of, confronting irrational fears with the beauty in our reality, anxieties can be soothed from restless energy into a productive force. By acknowledging what we feel most passionate about, this lunation inspires us to create something with love.
This powerful solar eclipse offers a breakthrough for what makes sense and what is reasonable. This New Moon brings focus to resolution, compromise and harmony. We are being cosmically encouraged to make changes that allow for balance. To weigh up decisions and motivations carefully. To check that our feelings, though they are undoubtedly powerful, will lead us to the best outcome.
Through this eclipse, Neptune and Saturn, which are both retrograde, sit at 28 and 14 degrees of Pisces, respectively. These outer planets have moved back to the exact degree they were at during the April Eclipse. We might seem to have come full circle but Saturn is asking us what we have learned on our journey over the last few months? What work have we done to heal? Which boundaries have we tested and where have we found compassion and a sense of being held?
Neptune, the planet with the power to rule the chaos of the Ocean compels us to keep dreaming. Neptune’s power comes from the relentless push to transcend the limits we might imagine are there. In this chart it hints at the mysterious, unknowable forces in life working in our favour. There is something beyond, connecting us to our yearning for an ideal.
On either side of Neptune both Uranus and Pluto are in gentle, supportive sextile so there may yet be surprising changes which allow for healing and a sense of empowerment through an innovative approach. The element of Water in this chart is notable. Tides are turning. Intuition and feeling must be followed now. Co-operation and caring will lead to success. Dreams can be made true through resourcefulness and the grit of determined, collaborative teamwork.
Guided Meditation
Where do you feel most at peace? Imagine yourself in that space now, in your mind… Picture the most beautiful colours around you, the most fragrant air. Perhaps you are outside, in a garden filled with flowers and friends. Maybe you are somewhere cosy, wrapped in a soft, luxurious blanket which reminds you of just how much you are loved and protected. This is how the New Moon in Libra wants you to feel. Free to indulge in the beauty which surrounds you. As you sit within this space, allow yourself to feel each breath into your lungs and let your heart swell with gratitude for simply being here. If you listen now, you can hear sweet chatter and laughter of those you love the most. They are excited to see you. They want to share their joy with you. Here in your perfect place, you can welcome them in. To share together in the love of pure connection and acceptance. They see the beauty in your heart and adore you for the light you bring into their world. You have the power not just to imagine this place but to create it, in the hearts of everybody you meet. Surrounded by beauty, colour and light you can stay here as long as you wish. And, when you are ready, you can carry this place in your heart and come back to this feeling of harmony and being at peace.
