New Moon in Cancer – 20th July 18:33 (BST)
Full Moon in Aquarius – 3rd August
“We hang, suspended like forgotten party lights on wires in the open air – buffeted by high winds. We cannot move, forgotten and forlorn as we might feel at this moment – but we can choose to shine brighter than we ever have before and they will remember us for that.” J.Dubbs
For the second time in succession, as the new Moon enters the sign of Cancer, we have an opportunity to forge yet another new beginning under her care. We continue to search for a stronger sense of home, of place, of belonging, of safety, of self. The new Moon falls in exact opposition to retrograde Saturn, conjunct Pluto/Jupiter in Capricorn. Saturn reminds us that the obsessional desire to hold on to power, the ‘status quo’ and old traditional structures is becoming less realistic and sustainable. Now better informed after his brief reconnoiter into Aquarius, he whispers urgently in their ears, reminding them that the Universe demands a new, more appropriate paradigm. The ‘power base’ must accept that the nature of outmoded traditions must integrally and radically alter. This long-overdue recognition of fact is the distilling jewel of Truth that manifests within this pivotal moment. We will never return to the old ‘normal’ and we are now more consciously within the process of transformation.
The continuing qualities of the sign of Cancer remain vital to our experience of the new Moon on 20th July. The sign of Cancer is Feminine and ruled by the Moon. It is a Cardinal Water sign which manifests both emotional energy and the instigation of new ideas and projects. The second new Moon in Cancer this year helps us to develop much needed ways of caring for and nurturing each other. We need this second boost of her lunar energy, to help us to create safety for ourselves, our families and Humanity. This lunar month, our image of the Mother Energy becomes sterner (but no less emotional, caring, protective and loving) and she now firmly urges us to make our minds up and to define what exactly it is that we want, what will make us happy and what we can to do to help ourselves to achieve our aims.
Around us, there is widespread anger and suffering (Mars conjunct Chiron in Aries square Mercury in Cancer). The arguments for the opposing needs of individuals and community organisation rage on. There is frustration, hurt, neediness and selfishness around us. Everyone seems to be fighting their corners and expressing their feelings regarding historical and current wounds imposed by some groups of people on others. We are, it seems, in a warlike process of tearing apart old paradigms, old beliefs, each other and even ourselves. The conflict is inevitable if we are to disseminate, unravel and clarify what needs to be changed and to understand how to progress from dark into light. Without understanding there can be no positive reconstruction. What intentions can we make to help ourselves and each other within such stormy times before the energy of the new lunar month begins on 20th July?
When it seems that there is little clarity around us (and little leadership!) we need to focus on nurture, security and self-love within the environment of our homes, our families, our tribes and those who share common spiritual beliefs. Within frustrating situations, it’s easy to give way to negativity – which can alter our behaviour. Here are some ideas on which to focus and from which to create our intentions as the new Moon instigates another precious chance of a new beginning:
Affirmation: As the energy around us intensifies, we consciously acknowledge that anger and fear are destructive and that the manifestation of positivity and love will help to create a better future.
What are you grateful for? How can you better connect with feelings of appreciation and a personal sense of nurture?
Are there any daily practices (eg. sitting in a peaceful space or in nature) that you could instigate in order to regularly observe and understand the nature and progress of your emotions?
What physical activities might help you to dissipate or offset your own confusion, anger or frustration?
How can you individually contribute with compassion, generosity and love to your family, friends and tribe?
How can you create a realistically safe and ‘shell-proof’ environment that suits your needs (or adjust the nature of the environment in which you already live)?
What do you wish to have manifested by the end of the month?
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
The Covid pandemic remains with us and, for most of the world’s population, circumstances are likely to continue in the same confused way for a while longer. We are restricted in the amount we can move and progress by the exact opposition of Saturn conjunct Jupiter and Pluto to the new Moon. We are effectively held in a vice-like grip – for the moment – whilst fractures within fractures of groups inevitably occur and both wild and realistic theories and solutions rage around us. We wonder even what the truth might actually be and who, if anyone, knows it? Disintegration will continue until it reaches the point where repair and rebuilding is possible. Meanwhile secrets and truths will ‘out’ on a minute by minute basis and we (and our governments?) do our best to weave through the confusion and try to make sense of it all.
Like the party light at the end of the wire, a crab who can only peep out from his shell, a car with its engine in repair – we are contained by circumstances. Whether they be entirely real or the product of fear, caused by bad management or imagination – who knows? Neptune sits sextile the Jupiter/Pluto/Saturn conjunction and awkwardly sesquiquadrate Venus in Gemini who seeks to arbitrate where she can. The reality we have accepted as ‘normal’ until now is in question and Neptune adds his magical confusion towards the conjunct ‘seat of power’ creating visionary possibilities and unrealistic theories. The Chiron/Mars conjunction in Aries is tightly square Mercury in Cancer. Yes – we acknowledge we are in trouble.
Anger and frustration continue to emanate from continuing widespread suffering as issues highlighted by the pandemic still rage around us. There’s growing awareness of the absolute necessity to rally and to manifest positive and compassionate care, strength and support for each other. Violence is likely to erupt as reality and illusion fight for recognition. We need to make supreme efforts to process changes happening within and without ourselves, while recognizing the need to keep our highest integrity to the fore and to quickly manifest the courage and strength we need!
However, like beacons shining from mountains on a gloomy horizon, Uranus stands, remaining unusually earthed in Taurus – and sextile Mercury at the moment of new Moon. They offer us stability, compassion and the ability to innovatively re-create ourselves from the confusion. Neptune still shines like a visionary beacon of Hope in Pisces. These planets are cause for optimism if we keep our focus on the mountains and not on the machinations and clownish antics of those who rule many of our governments. We have to view our cups as half full as we focus on positivity, love, light and keeping our own integrity safe. As Humanity walks through ‘the valley of the shadow of death’, she knows she can emerge into the sunlight again as she has before!
Although in crisis such as this, it is inevitably difficult to always remain centred, we trust that everything passes eventually! It seems that the intensity will start to ease by the end of the year and Light Bulb Illumination will begin! In the meantime, within the Mother energy of this new Moon, we can aspire towards a better future by establishing the habit of choosing positivity and Love over negativity.
Affirmation: Demolition and reconstruction are taking the space they need in order that the Great Spirit can do her work! The wind will ease. We stand firm and tune into our highest selves. We trust in the integrity of the continuing journey of planet Earth through the Universe. We embody the qualities of love, caring, one-ness and creativity. We are One Family and One Love. HO!
