New Moon in Cancer 29th June 03:52 (BST)
Full Moon in Capricorn 13th July
“Those who flow as life flows know they need no other force.” – Lao Tzu
The New Moon in Cancer faces the Earth – and the Sun, directly behind her from our position on Earth, is on her back. Her face is dark, beautiful, and mysterious – her secrets invisible and tightly held inside her being as the Lunar Month begins. She hums with opportunity and potential – and she flows and vibrates with Love, reminding us of the interdependence of all things and the importance of us extending a constant and gentle flow of compassion and kindness to all living things.
Ninety degrees away and far off in the cosmos, Jupiter is suspended amongst the stars between Chiron (Aries) and Neptune (Pisces). Mars too, in Aries, is not so far away. Jupiter challenges the New Moon loudly and with authority:
“Sublime Mother Moon, silver Harbinger of loving care, strengthened as you are, at this New Moon moment, by the power of the Sun, take action!” he says. “Humanity will hear your reminder of the need for compassion throughout the world. There is an urgent need to understand the necessity to feed, clothe and shelter all of Earth’s people and to protect all of nature. Extend justice, peace and love into their hearts and hold them in safety.”
The New Moon trembles in response and begins her cycle…….
The New Moon is in watery Cancer. Cancer is Cardinal and emotional – a gentle but determined initiator of new ideas and projects. She is creative and she reinforces our sensitivity and empathy towards each other. The sign is ruled by the yin energy of the Moon herself as she shines and blooms with the power of the Summer Solstice that took place on the morning of the 21st at 10.14 when the Sun entered Cancer and reached its most northern position on the Earth’s surface in its annual journey. Cancer is Mother energy, bringing a boost to our awareness of the importance of family, Nurture, love, empathy, protection and compassion – and all the simplicity and complexity that those qualities involve. The New Moon in Cancer smiles on us and reminds us to appreciate the abundance of what the world offers us and the goodies that are available to the whole of humanity. She reminds of the need to share and distribute them fairly – and the value of our contact with each other.
The South Node is firmly in Scorpio – square Saturn (Aquarius), trine Neptune (Pisces) and opposite Uranus conjunct the South Node (Taurus). The past must be seen clearly – and no longer through rose coloured spectacles. It’s time to actively re-interpret it in a way that will better serve the future. Neptune encourages vision, Jupiter (conjunct Chiron) seeks justice for all and the square to Saturn also encourages a responsibility towards innovation and a more holistic view of the world and a move away from what often seems to be an addiction to out dated traditional structures. Pluto in Capricorn has done its best to break these down. It seems that now we are being encouraged to find solutions, to complete unfinished tasks and to get on with creating urgent new initiatives that are more relevant to the revelations of the last months.
The Nodal axis of Scorpio/Taurus is central to the whole picture. ‘Lay bare the Truth of the past and create a new, compassionate future’ is the call (in brief!). We are being urged, it seems, to find the courage to finally step ‘out of the box’ and to create new paradigms that are humanitarian and scientifically innovative. Neptune trine the South Node throws us the gift of celestial dust – and whereas this might seem to be a call for humanity to become more spiritually aware to some, to others it could manifest as a feeling that past boundaries are at last dissolving and we are being given permission to indulge in the excitement of an explosion of creativity – both in the arts and scientifically. Bring on the expressions of beauty and the inventive and imaginative ideas that will eventually create solutions to world problems!
Mars in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn is traditionally indicative of war, conflict and confrontation. There are serious conflicts and ‘stampings of feet’ as those addicted to old paradigms attempt to extend their power. However, Mars is also sextile to Saturn. Perhaps some decorum and good sense is being brought to the party that will ultimately restrain this tendency. Predictably a sense of reality might take time to sink through to the deeper consciousness of those who lack compassion and a sense of morality and imagine they are playing with toy tanks and guns, toy money and the lives of those who are struggling to feed, house and keep themselves warm.
In a way, the whole world has been in a state of ‘high alert’ over the last months and we perhaps all need time to calm down and come down to earth. Although current crisis are likely to continue for a while yet, many of us are weary with the effort of adjusting to different circumstances and altered realities. Neptune sextile Pluto lends vision and inspiration, perhaps helping us to ‘work through the plot’ concerning the heavier (Capricorn) issues that we still may be dealing with. The New Moon in Cancer gives us the opportunity to regroup and to reconnect with our families and our tribes. There is strength in this.
At the moment of New Moon, Mercury in Gemini is trine Saturn in Aquarius. Airy ease of communication! Alongside astute and flowing communication, there is bound to be some hot air of the ‘blah’ variety around us. We have to sift through the rhetoric! This month we can find opportunities as we re-learn how to re-connect and how to share ideas face to face (as opposed to mainly through the internet). Saturn sextile Mars encourages a flow of interaction, some of it perhaps ‘grim’ – and Venus, also in Gemini, sextile Jupiter in Aries, lends balance and harmony as justice and fairness attempt re-establishment and those in difficult circumstances start to find their feet.
This New Moon in Cancer enables the regrowth of our wings and gives us a chance to rediscover the love and joy surrounding us in the Universe that is ready to re-present to us – if we can relax enough to allow it to manifest! It’s time, perhaps, to consider reclaiming the full strength of our mojos with this New Moon on 29th June and create our wishes, visions and intentions for this Lunar Month. Here are some ideas to consider as you form them:
Everything we do affects everything and everyone around us. We throw thoughts, words and attitudes, like stones, into still water, and the ripples flow outwards to the edges of the lake and even beyond – vibrating the earth beneath us and the skies above. If we act always from our hearts, with compassion, empathy and love, perhaps we can change the vibrations of the whole world.
