New Moon in Cancer – 10th July 02:16 (BST)
Full Moon in Aquarius – 24th July
“It is my feeling that Time ripens all things; with Time, all things are revealed; Time is the father of Truth.” Francois Rabelais
Before the world can fully emerge from within this ball of tangled string, there seems to still be some unravelling to do. Confusion and restriction still surround us and the backdrop of the pandemic still affects the whole world but – even though lessons are still unfolding – the starting point of the next journey is always now! Hail the new Moon in Cancer! We view the clean page in front of us on which we will all write, paint, collage, sing and dance our contribution to the creation of our collective futures.
Summer is all around us and we’re surrounded by bounty and colour. We celebrate the abundance – but still, we find ourselves dealing with confusion, corruption and imbalance.
This New Moon continues the story begun by Pluto and emotional waters continue to seek their level. In opposition to Pluto (7 degrees), square Chiron and trine Neptune, the end of the story continues to unfold. Cancer is a Water sign, Cardinal and ruled by the Moon herself. Cancerian energy is loving and caring. Water is the fullness of ripening corn and the weeping, leaking sap of a tree. It is tears of laughter and of sadness, the amniotic water of birth and the freeing of fluids at death. It seeks equilibrium and space through which to flow freely, no matter how turbulent or calm the process might be.
It’s a mistake to imagine that the sign of Cancer’s energy is merely security seeking, passive and emotional. She may be all those things – but Cancer, the Crab, has claws and can move decisively and surprisingly fast when she wants to, albeit sideways! Cardinal energy expresses an urge for action and new initiatives that will lead to increased emotional security and a sense of unity with others. Water energy is love and nurture. Cancerian energy understands the need for emotions to flow and the energy of Mother Moon encapsulated the blueprint concept that life moves in phases of ebbs and flows. The energy is instinctive and creative. It is kind and generous, gentle and forceful. Water can seep into the smallest, deepest spaces and can rise into the highest parts of the Earth’s atmosphere as vapour. Sometimes the energy swirls and eddies but it is always moving. Even when seemingly static in deep, mysterious pools, the occasional bubble rises to the surface – with purpose – and creates movement.
We meet family and friends at this time of year. We seek crowds, celebration, fun, partying, the exchange of feelings, joy and emotion. We come out of our shells. On a personal level, we move in search of balance, peace, happiness, reassurance and security – seeking a sense of ‘free flow’. The astrological environment within which this New Moon is placed encourages us to be more aware of and to take active and responsible action towards ourselves, each other, nature and the Earth.
What can we best resolve to do with our best intentions and wishes this moonth? A focus on allowing our clearest and most imaginative visualisations to flow is important as the lunar moonth begins on 10th July.
Suggested meditation: Sitting in a quiet space, imagine the sound of water in its different states – rain, a little brook that runs freely over river stones and pebbles, waves as they crash on the shore, the rush of flood water as a dam breaks, a waterfall, the lapping of gentle ripples at the edge of a calm lake. What emotions do these states of water stir in you? This is the flow of Life. Our bodies contain two thirds of our weight in fluids – as does the earth’s surface. Visualise being part of a river of water as it flows gently forwards.
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
We are bombarded by cosmic forces that are encouraging us to use our highest and deepest instincts to move towards frequencies of behaviour powered less by physically linked flows of forces in the universe and more towards contacts that involve emotionally driven acts of care and love. Pluto, still in Capricorn, is the ruler of Scorpio – and deep, deep water. We have been ‘plumbing the depths’ of our existence as members of the Human Race on this beautiful Earth for some time during this recent phase! Now, Humanity is required to aim towards a higher frequency as regards her motivation.
Mars conjunct Venus in Leo at the time of New Moon is in opposition to Saturn in Aquarius and forms a Grand Trine with Chiron in Aries and the South Node in Sagittarius. We need leadership action that emphasises the need for balance and fairness as opposed to increased control! The conjunction is also closely square to Uranus in Taurus (ruled by Venus). Innovative, caring action – or rebellion.
Mercury is in the last degrees of Gemini and will move into Cancer on 12th July increasing this lunar moonth’s need to creating emotional and empathetic links with each other as opposed to conflict instigated by divisive words. The Grand Trine speaks about the need to acknowledge the pain of the past and to take steps to heal it rather than to continue in the quest to hang on to the very structures and outdated beliefs that created it. (If only those in control took more notice of astrology)
In the USA, the leadership style is attempting to transform the social landscape – although strong pockets of retro-style thinking who cling on to less evolved attitudes from the past still evidently exist. The deconstruction effect of Pluto in Capricorn is not yet complete – and is unlikely to be until Pluto moves into Aquarius finally in 2024 where it will remain until 2044. In the UK, some still romp determinedly towards retaining their own form of security with little awareness of the ‘one world’ vision of the future. However, perhaps reason will eventually prevail and the need for positive and caring transformation of structures will be understood by all.
Perhaps we all need, at this time, to focus on finding creative solutions to world situations that will eventually heal and rebuild our structures if we ground our creativity in a genuine urge to focus our responsibly to each other and the world we live in. We are being called upon, this moonth, to consciously generate more ‘acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty’ – and to spread as much love as we can from ourselves to each other and throughout the world. Perhaps, with this New Moon, we will confidently emerge from our shells to reveal our softer, gentler underbellies with pride.
Ho!
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” Mahatma Gandhi
