New Moon in Gemini – 13th June 20:43 (BST)
Full Moon in in Capricorn, 28th June 2018
“What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow that runs across
The grass and loses itself in the sunset.”
Crowfoot, Blackfoot warrior and orator
Give me AIR! I am hungry for knowledge, for communication, for travel – and the lightness and freedom to go where the mood takes me. I need to take deep breaths, to feel the wind and the weather systems as they swirl around the Earth – patterns and non-patterns of movement, predictability and unpredictability. I want to immerse myself within the movement of the collective consciousness – of thoughts, ideas and the potential for communication between us all. I want to loosen up, to think sharply, fluidly, intelligently, thoughtfully – and to interact with strangers, conscious that we are all neighbours – near and far – all part of the same humanity.
Life consists mainly of a series of fleeting moments and then – quickly – it has gone. The image is of a bird, riding the air currents, shifting with ease, sideways and back – sometimes soaring high and sometimes plunging low towards the Earth, travelling in instinctive formation with others and, at other times, taking off alone into the wild, easy blue. He experiences. He sees the whole picture of the earth laid out below him from high in the sky. He flies quickly because that’s the only way to go. He dips to look at what shines and moves, what catches his eye below. He looks at the details and learns from what he sees. Then he flies on to the next place – and new experiences.
Gemini is of the Air, masculine and Mutable in quality. He adjusts his behaviour according to the situations within which he finds himself. He seems always light and effervescent but there is plenty of depth within too. He observes and communicates with other birds. He finds his direction by instinct. “What’s next?” he says, “Which way are the winds telling me to go?” He may appear to have little concentration or staying power but, like a butterfly flitting from one flower to another, he continues to suck up the nectar of the world as he shifts seamlessly from one flower, one thought, one person – to another.
This New Moon, on 13th June at 20.43 BST, is a Super Moon (the Moon is closer to the Earth). His energy encapsulates the spirit of Gemini and beams this Lunar month’s energy extra-strongly towards us. Gemini, ruled by Mercury, is concerned with thought processes, communication of all kinds and travel. He is a joker, mercurial in his movements. His energy aligns with that of children, of innocence and of eager, good natured learning. However, communications and speed of movement can sometimes be tricky and deceptive. He is Puckish and disguises himself according to the circumstances in which he finds himself. He can appear as dual energies working alongside each other – like the twin symbol that represents him.
A New Moon and yet another possibility for a New Beginning – intensified by the closeness to the Earth. The gravitational pull on the Earth, the tides and all plant and animal life on the Earth, including our own, is stronger than usual and in the two or three days before the New Moon, when the pull is exceptionally strong, we have an opportunity to open to this focus of energy. Uranus is sextile Mercury and the New Moon is opposite the Galactic Centre of the Universe – a magical opportunity to open ourselves up to its wisdom and to receive guidance and flashes of inspiration to help us to form our wishes and intentions before the energy activates at 20.43 (BST) on 13th June:
Suggested Meditation: Sit with eyes closed and visualise the Sun and Moon together behind you as it will be at this Gemini New Moon. Visualise the Galactic Centre directly in front of you. Allow yourself to feel the energy flowing through you between these points and observe your feelings. Open yourself to receiving gifts of images, phrases, feelings, ideas from the Centre.
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
There is new potential in every moment. The stars align in ever changing astrological patterns presenting energies that offer opportunities for advancement, break through, break down, change. We choose to be involved – or not – in situations that present and manifest in the Universe, the world and within us. It is possible for us to ignore ‘windows of opportunity’ available to us, to dance though life, unaware. The politicians who rule react – or not – to the astrology of moments too. Here is a moment to find creative solutions within the whirling ‘wind currents’ that surround us.
Mars, conjunct the South Node at the time of the New Moon, encourages some to hang on fiercely to old perceptions and judgements and to blindly refuse to separate what was good about old rules from what is out dated. Mars is also firmly square to Uranus which could make all of us volatile in our communications. There could be temper outbursts and acts of anger. Dangerous – but not unavoidable if we are aware.
A significant T Square adds to this. Mercury opposite Saturn and both square Chiron, all in Cardinal signs encourage us to start new initiatives – to move, shift. Some might make spontaneous judgements and fling insults at each other. However, we are also encouraged to talk, think, sense the circumstances of others and there’s an urgent need to do this. President Trump meets with Kim Yong-Un of North Korea in the summit on 12th June to discuss the terms of the relationship between their countries. The challenge is to make positive and harmonious decisions, rather than to dissolve into anger. An innovative, new relationship in tune with the opportunity for a ‘new beginning’, perhaps. We hope so.
(NB: Trump’s Sun is conjunct this New Moon and conjunct Mars in the US natal chart.)
Might our Governments take a look at opportunities for more positive and empathetic communications and solutions? Uranus (Taurus) trine Saturn (Capricorn) fight alongside to change old structures. It’s time to attend to our wounded (Chiron trine North Node conjunct Venus). New, humane ideas for a more connected and fair world are straining to be heard. Even Neptune, retrograde June 18th (until November), is perhaps attempting to give us some time to reflect upon the importance of this time.
The wind currents, the sand storms, the floods, earthquakes and the beautiful calm and sunny days continue to manifest as usual – but we have a unique opportunity to focus on change through communication, innovation and shared knowledge. The Super Moon in Gemini encourages us to loosen up our personal structures, to adjust, to get involved and to go with the flow. If you don’t use it, you lose it – or stagnate. Could we help create positive change through positive thought and communication?
“Here – take it,” says the Gemini Super Moon, “my beautiful, swirling energy, my ideas, my inspiration and opportunities for joy through compromise. It’s possible for mankind to work together. I hunger for Peace. Look!”
