New Moon in Sagittarius – 7th December 07:20 (GMT)
Full Moon in Cancer, 22nd December 17:48 2018
Expansion and Justice! Think Eagle – soaring above the Earth and capable of seeing everything at once – the whole picture. We search for the value and meaning of our human state spread out below us. The New Moon, placed firmly in the middle of Sagittarius this month, encourages us to become more aware of the world as one being – and how important our individual role is within it. This is a precious opportunity to establish the awareness that we can no longer exist on this Earth as if nothing we do matters. Our every thought, word and action potentially has an effect on her and on everyone else. As above, so below. As within, so without. Here, we have a rare opportunity to see from an expanded viewpoint. It will be difficult to hide within our own physical space, inside our own scrap of flesh now, ignoring our part in everything that is happening on Earth and pretending that what we do affects nothing else.
Sagittarius is a Masculine Fire sign, Mutable in quality and ruled by the planet Jupiter. Jupiter manifests Fairness, Abundance, Joy and Expansion of all kinds. The image is that of a Man-God, strong and charismatic. Behind him, he hides wings that are always ready for action. He soars upwards to view the world from high in the sky. He sees ‘the wider perspective’ with an eagle’s freedom and ability to zoom into focus any detail below that needs attention. He is a philosopher, a traveller, a scholar, an exuberant adventurer journeying through time, enthusiastically seeking new knowledge. He leaves good council and sometimes a legacy of useful changes in his wake. He is optimistic and adaptable. He ‘goes with the flow’. He often also leaves trails of over indulgence, excess and wildness behind him. He is also prone to exaggeration and is capable of lack of control. However, underneath all this, he is sound, purposeful, fair, just and benevolent.
Jupiter is also in his own sign of Sagittarius at the time of the New Moon, exaggerating the effects of the energy. Mercury moves direct on 6thth and enters Sagittarius again the 13th. The Jupiterian energy intensifies and brings all things Sagittarian into focus. The New Moon is square Neptune conjunct Mars, also in mutable, spiritual Pisces and sesquiquadrate a wild Uranus who, having recently returned to Aries, longs to get on with rebellion and inevitable, imminent big changes. Saturn approaches Pluto in Capricorn, close to the South Node – urging us to practise restraint and practicality. The Capricorn energy is reluctant to change the structures of the status quo. Forces push against each other. We need to keep grounded and practical within a chaotic climate.
Personally and globally, however, this New Moon presents us with a wonderful opportunity to expand our awareness and horizons, firm up our beliefs, to break out of structures that we have accepted for far too long and to be freer in the way we think and the way we function. Amidst the confusion of so many conflicting energies surrounding us, it would be easy to ‘lose the plot’. How can we keep our cool, accept the culmination of crises, perhaps even indulge a little and still ‘be the change that we want to see’? The maelstrom seems to whirl like a snow storm around the whole world and the Earth reflects the energy in fires, winds and floods. We need to expand our own consciousness and still focus with clarity on the finer details of our lives as the New Moon approaches. Here are some suggestions:
Suggested meditation:
With eyes closed and breathing deeply, relaxed and grounded, allow your consciousness to expand outwards, viewing yourself as a central energy point from which emanates circular ripples of fiery energy. Expand this awareness until you reach the widest boundaries of your consciousness. Be conscious of your intention to see a wider picture of yourself from an elevated viewpoint with eagle clarity. Observe carefully. If you visualise interruptions or blocking of energy, identify the sources and focus on clearing them. Visualise yourself at your fullest, expanded potential……Then imagine that the ripples slowly calm and contract as you return to your still centre.
Intentions and Wishes:
Dream your dream and walk into it!
Are you ‘playing too small’? What actions can you take that will help you to expand into your ‘greatest’ self?
What new foundations for expansion can you build?
What intentions can you make to increase a sense freedom in your life? Do you need to travel more – both externally and internally?
What are your deepest beliefs? Does your way of life reflect them?
What are your goals? Can you add new ones?
This is an opportunity for healing. With love – make an intention to leave behind any guilt, unhelpful personal myths, denials or embarrassments about the past. Free yourself and find ways to mark your self-forgiveness.
How can you nurture a ‘strong and stable’ (!) core from which fiery positivity, fairness and creative abundance can flow outwards from you?
How can you help to maintain and heal the Earth?
How can you enjoy and celebrate your life this month?
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
We are at a crisis point in time when the astrological climate, inclusive of this New Moon, is attempting to point us all in a positive new direction, a new beginning. BUT – there are those who have mentally been left behind! Picture a stone-age man clumsily wielding his huge club at others he wants to dominate! The club slips and hits his foot – hard. I believe this might be a metaphor for what could evolve this lunar month! It is likely to become difficult for those in ‘power’ (with particularly Neanderthal traits!) to wield their clubs effectively after this New Moon. Strong aspects (including Mars in Pisces conjunct Neptune) are encouraging a deeper awareness of spirituality. Outbursts that reveal little understanding or integrity are likely to appear more random and obviously ludicrous to many of us. There is likely to be increased collective awareness. That said, however, until we evolve a little further, thoughtless club wielding could continue to damage undeserving victims before the clubs are finally thrown away. Refugees, for instance, have had little input into the conflicts that cause them to make exhausting journeys towards dubious safety and lack of acceptance in countries that often initiated their situations in the first place. Nevertheless the lack of awareness and compassion continues.
We are seeing, more clearly than ever, the consequences of the behaviour of people to whom wealth, domination and power are more important than empathy, justice and fairness. Hopefully, the energy of this New Moon and its astrological environment will lead to revelations for some. There could even be some inadvertent but obvious self-harming (‘shooting themselves in the foot’) for the ‘club wielders’. It seems that the true impotence of aggressive gestures and the increasingly ludicrous proclamations of the Greedy and Unfair will appear even more blatantly absurd during this Sagittarian Lunar Month and will be revealed as the intolerable and ridiculous indulgences they are.
Increasing attempts at social control are unlikely to be sustainable for much longer – although the situation may not have reached a full climax yet! Those in power are desperately attempting to hang on to habits that are no longer relevant. The level of chaos and fragmentation is un-sustainable. The beautiful New Moon encourages individuals to demand justice and freedom. Discontent expands and bubbles closer to the surface! Change is inevitable. Britain’s attempt to leave the EU, proposed changes to long term trading conventions throughout the world, the schizophrenic feeding of/gaining from war through arms sales, the manic attempts to control immigration – with all the underlying racism that surfaces as a result – all add to the wider, Sagittarian picture. Big changes are inevitable. It is time for the Neanderthals (and their clubs) to leave the caves .
A higher perspective! Bring it on ! This may well mark the beginning of an end – and the beginning of a new way of being. We search for depth and heights at this time, for breadth and width. It’s important that we access our own reality, peace, beliefs and balance – and maintain stability within our own spiritual beliefs. We need to practise an outflowing of love – from ourselves towards the world and all humanity. Obviously all people have the same right to consideration, freedom and compassion, whatever differences there may be in their appearance and beliefs. We need to help each other. Breakthrough! Fully aware of the nature of our place at the centre of our own Universe, we optimistically reach out.
‘We are stardust, we are golden – and we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden’ – from the song: ‘Woodstock’ by Joni Mitchell.
