New Moon in Taurus – 15th May 12:47 (BST)
Full Moon in in Sagittarius, 29th May 2018
“Honour the sacred. Honour the Earth, our Mother. Honour the Elders. Honour all with whom we share the Earth – Four-leggeds, two-leggeds, winged ones, Swimmers, crawlers, plant and rock people. Walk in balance and beauty.”
(Native American Elder)
May 15th 2018: Imagine all the leaders of the world (including those we rarely see), the chief media moguls and all those responsible for maintaining (or destroying) the structure of our present societies, standing apart but together in an endless grassy meadow, knee deep in lush grass and surrounded by wild flowers, butterflies, bees and birds – under a warm sun, their feet fixed firmly on the earth and their eyes towards the blue sky – silent and still for 15 minutes before the New Moon in Taurus begins – with no agenda apart from the present moment. They take a deep breath at precisely 12.47 GMT and then acknowledge those around them, whoever they might be, with kindness and a sense of one-ness. Perhaps the awareness of the Earth around them and the presence of each other might create understanding and a positive way forward. A different way….
Of course, we all know that pigs might also fly. However, this New Moon is asking us to root ourselves in the Earth, and to acknowledge our position in the universe and our home within it, our families and the wider family of Humanity. Taurus is a fixed Earth sign and is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, harmony, possessions – and money.
The image is of a voluptuous woman in her prime, already a mother and always pregnant. Practical, sensual, rooted, lush: she feeds everyone around her. She nurtures, she loves, she manages and she cares. She grows vegetables and tends to the animals that are part of her world. She protects and provides for her family. She is aware of the balance of rhythms around her, the musical and creative potential of every moment and the love that surrounds us as we exist on our little patch of Earth. She creates her home as a comfortable, warm and loving space. She gathers what she needs to sustain her family. She can be obstinate and unmoveable if she feels her family is threatened. Don’t try to shift her. Like a she-bull, she will defend and you will be banished.
The transits at this New Moon indicate that there could be a sense of the ‘speeding up’ of events around us. This might feel as unexpected, as thrilling and as shocking as riding a roller coaster. At these times, home, family, nature, nurture and the need to feel valued and protected become even more important. In which areas of our lives are we most likely to experience these changes? How will we react to unexpected events that might take place in the wider world? Inevitable changes and the acknowledgement of the value of home and family is likely to be a general theme. (Areas where we are most likely to experience events can be pinpointed by finding out the significance of where 24/25 degrees of Taurus occurs in our birth charts.)
It’s important to consider our personal circumstances in reference to our own nurture and care – and that of others – as we reflect on how to form our wishes and intentions before the New Moon begins. Here are some suggestions:
Where do I need to ‘ground’ myself? I intend to become more aware of the details of what is necessary to further balance my life and to find practical ways of manifesting my own sense of ‘home’.
I open myself to the powerful energy of Uranus (that will also enter the sign of Taurus soon after the New Moon). I will open myself to the probability of radical change.
Where can I find new solutions to issues that need improvement, nurture, care?
I am open to an inflow of dynamic energy and communication. I am ready for action.
I choose to ‘go with the flow’ and to find positivity and stability in reaction to new experiences that come into my life within the next Lunar Month.
What can I do to make others feel more comfortable, protected and nurtured?
I will celebrate the beauty of the natural world, the family that surrounds me and my wider family in the world.
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
This is an interesting She-Bull New Moon. Mars has just passed Pluto and their mid-point is trine the New Moon. Uranus ingresses (enters) the fixed sign of Taurus where he will be until 2020. The unexpected and revolutionary meets the immovable. Stress follows quickly. The New Moon accentuates this. The She-Bull snorts and sends blooms of angry steam from her nose. She paws the ground and wants to stay put but Uranus, the mover and shaker, will have his way. The New Moon sits on the mid-heaven of the chart for London. Something has to change – radically and quickly – but the bull will stick her hooves obstinately in the earth as long as she can. Occurring just into the twelfth house of the chart of Washington DC, perhaps the changes will be under-cover, unseen with action and communications bubbling subversively under the surface.
Saturn urges both good sense and awkwardness in the manner that it assists in adjusting structures and the conjunction between Uranus and Mercury brings radical, revolutionary and unusual communications, hopefully leading to constructive change. Uranus remains square to Pluto, conjunct Mars but passes into Taurus (until 2020) – a significant ‘new beginning’ in itself, energised by the New Moon. The Shifter versus The Un-Shiftable might indicate earthquakes and volcanos as the earth feels the stress and loses the battle. There will possibly be a significant earth-related event around the 15th or 16th.
Very quickly, after the New Moon, Mars moves from Capricorn into Aquarius, where he will be for six months (periods of retrograde make his stay longer than usual). Mars – movement, action and sometimes violence, in Aquarius, ruled by Uranus – might spark revolution, extremism and impulsive behaviour. The combination indicates originality and innovation too. Inevitably we may find new ways to get things done and new solutions, perhaps involving technology. Cyber wars could become a ‘dark side’ of this transit – perhaps with people attempting to infiltrate or even dominate computer systems and to ‘bring them down’. (Note to self: Back-ups necessary!) There could be interruptions to the ‘usual’ flow of money – prompting the initiation of new rules and solutions regarding safety. There could be sudden, massive changes leading to the simplifying of present systems and more practical ways of organising the flow of knowledge and technology.
I’m an optimistic person. Give me a chaotic and frightening astrological combination and I’ll find light and resurrection in it! However, within any set of transits there is both extreme heavenly light and extreme darkness and therefore a need to be aware of this. The speed of possible changes and sudden events, both natural and manufactured by man, could feel overwhelming at times at this New Moon. However, we have choice as to how we react and what we learn from events. We each resonate to ‘light and dark’ according to our own personalities, our experiences and the complications of our own ‘inner universes’ – whatever they may be! We make choices as to how we use the incoming energy of the planets whether we are aware of them or not and influenced by the circumstances within which we, as tiny specs within the vastness of the Universe, find ourselves.
This New Moon lunar month waxes into the Full Moon in Sagittarius on 29th May. The accent, by that stage in the lunar month, may well be on freedom – please.
“Sometimes I feel like a motherless child – a long way from home – Freedom!” (William E Barton 1899)
