Super New Moon in Virgo – 17th September 12:00 midday (BST)
Full Moon in Aries – 1st October
“The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast,
The slow one now will later be fast,
As the present now will later be past,
The order is rapidly fading,
And the first one now will later be last,
For the times they are a-changing.”
Bob Dylan
That old building creaks and strains against wild forces that gust around it. The foundations will hold the structure of the walls above ground until the final shifts in Cosmic movements bring it down. It is on its way. What will we build in its place?
The Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn conjunction trines the New Moon in Virgo, holding her down with steel cable efficiency. She strains, trembles, shivers and checks every creak and groan as she presides over the Grand Cross (New Moon, Nodal Axis, Neptune), aware of the importance of her role in this story. She whispers her messages quietly and urgently – the need to plan for the future, to be clear in intention, practical, down to earth, to care for others and pay attention to the details of Life. We value the opportunity of her energy input. Next month, when Venus in Virgo replaces the New Moon in the Grand Cross, the rigidity of the old structures will begin to fold and fall, like a pack of cards, into the abyss.
Virgo is feminine, Earthy, Mutable and ruled by Mercury. The image is of a woman; busy, motivated and intent on creating order within chaos. Virgo energy craves to be of service to others, to clear and to revitalise practical, healthy and safe routines that are adaptable and appropriate for the times within which we live. We need to be ready for what will come, whatever that may be. She will help us to deal with the nuts and bolts of life and to put in place details that might become important. She clears the clutter away. She is practical and down to earth. Her focus is on the creation of an organized, functional space. However uncertain and unknown the future may be, she will do the best possible job of preparation. Her energy comes from good sense and clear intent. Here is an important opportunity for a significant injection of her specific energy. The present structure has had its day. How can we prepare for something entirely new and different from what has gone before? We can trust that we will create spaces that will enable a New Order of energy to enter and we will adjust our behaviour accordingly.
The New Moon in Virgo on 17th September is ‘Super’ because it is relatively closer to the Earth and the energy is powerful. It gives us a significantly strong opportunity to make ‘a new beginning’. Intentions made with the birth of the energy will be potent. Opposing Neptune and squaring the Nodal Axis, we can powerfully dream, visualize and create our future. Mutability is the ability to adjust to circumstances within which we find ourselves, however unexpected they might be. We have already been forced to change routines because of unusual events around us. The positive affect of this is that we have hopefully become more aware of the need to be flexible. Ruled by Mercury, which influences our thought processes and communications, Moon in Virgo provides the opportunity to become more conscious of our thought processes and our ability to choose and to be active in creating the world we live in. Mercury – square the Jupiter/Pluto/Saturn stellium – is in the sign of Libra at the point of New Moon. We are seeking calm and balance in our thinking processes – and are encouraged to communicate with more love and harmony towards each other.
How can we best use the energy of this New Moon? Here are some suggestions for focus as we ‘Autumn-Clean’ our internal and external spaces.
Affirmation: I am open to discovery of who I truly am and what I aspire to be. I will efficiently create clear ideas and intentions in preparation for the approaching Lunar Month in the spirit of truth, organization, practicality and clarity:
What physical ‘clutter’ within your life do you need to clear, organise or offload in preparation for the approaching Lunar Month?
What (who?) is cluttering your mental processes?
Which emotions do you carry that restrict your mental space? eg. fearful or aggressive feelings that do not serve you positively and/or contact with people who are toxic and/or negative.
How can you re-organise your physical, mental and emotional health with positivity and creativity? eg: exercise, diet, contact with others, ‘time out’, meditation etc.
In which areas of your life do you need to pay more attention to details? What needs mindful and thorough scrutiny? How can you tweak your daily routine in order to become more efficient and productive?
In what ways can you help to care for your environment and others in a practical way?
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
Balanced (square) on either side of the Virgo New Moon are the South Node in Sagittarius and the North Node in Gemini. Humanity is urged to seek balance between the honest acknowledgement of past achievements and failures and the positive creation of the future of Humanity. What do we want? What do we need? What direction do we wish to head in? Neptune (opposite) encourages creative thinking and innovative solutions to practical problems. Mars in Aries (inconjunct the New Moon) strongly reminds us to be clear, straightforward and incisive in our intentions and to take action to support and defend what we truly believe in. There are likely to be more demonstrations and fierce declarations of beliefs manifesting on the world stage within the next Lunar Month.
Fractures within fractured factions and aggressively wild attitudes and beliefs have been manifesting in sharp contrast to empathetic and humane demands for more compassion and fairness towards specific groups of people. Some are active in demanding the protection of earth eco systems before irreversible damage is inflicted upon it by mankind. Conspiracy theories rumble in the background of the social and political landscape. Deep seated and historical prejudices and beliefs involving power and superiority re-emerge from muddy bogs of antiquity as if they have never been away. All these trends are reflective of the Astrological landscape.
Truth appears, at this moment, to mean opposing things to different people. Many seem to denounce humanitarian progress made over the last century involving fairness and equality. Our political leaders in the USA and UK have also emphatically ‘chosen’ rigid priorities and paradigms to follow – and yet there is widespread confusion. Extremism thrives and people seem to hang on desperately to whichever beliefs they have chosen to follow as if they are clinging blindly to life rafts in tempestuous seas. Few people seem to be able to adjust or compromise their views.
The Super Virgo New Moon reminds us of the need for mutability at an auspicious moment! The social structure is shaking – but Jupiter, having just gone stationary direct on 13th September will be followed by Saturn on 29th and Pluto on 4th October – all then moving on their way forwards towards Aquarius within this lunar month. Jupiter and Saturn will reach Aquarius during December. This will create a huge, hopeful and positive shift in energy towards more enlightened humanitarian policies and behaviour and away from the restrictive, unbendable structures marked by the Pluto/Jupiter/Saturn stellium in Capricorn. The results and effects of the approaching Presidential Election in the USA in November and the imminent implementation of a ‘no deal’ Brexit in the UK, within this present astrological climate, will be interesting to say the least! Could these events mark the start of a final collapse of current structures in both countries?
Mercury in Libra (square the Pluto/Saturn/Jupiter conjunction) encourages us to seek our own senses of balance, harmony and calm from which to go forward but, nevertheless, this month, many are likely to be motivated to shout what they believe to be their truths from the rooftops. Uranus in Taurus square Venus in Leo suggests that we are likely to face shortages of supplies and challenges to the service structures that have kept us provided for in the Western World over the last few decades. The next few months are likely to remain difficult and confusing. We will have to continue to exercise our innovative and creative abilities in response.
Although the pandemic continues to affect our lives (some believe that it doesn’t exist), optimistically, this New Moon provides us with an opportunity to personally ‘reboot’, reassess and prepare for the future. Whatever viewpoints we hold, most of us have had to adjust our routines and lifestyles over the last few months. We have grown used to uncertainty and are already veering away from the old, familiar ‘normal’ and towards the new future.
The Virgo Super New Moon encourages us to become more conscious of our habits and thought processes at a time when many of us are already clarifying new lifestyles. We have become more conscious of the differences between us. However, it is becoming more obvious also that, unless we find ways of co-operating and respecting each other, circumstances can only become worse.
Neptune lights our way forward by encouraging us to make ‘leaps’ of trust and faith as we reorganize, visualise and clarify our beliefs and intentions in preparation for the approaching Lunar Month.
Things may indeed get worse before they get better – but at this moment of Virgo New Moon, we will prepare optimistically and practically for the future.
Ho!
