New Moon in Virgo 27th August 09:17 (BST)
Full Moon in Pisces 10th September
“Certainly, it is Heaven upon Earth to have man’s mind move in Charity, rest in Providence, and turn upon the poles of Truth” Francis Bacon
Here she comes, softly tripping towards us, her face a mask of care, determination, knowledge and practical instructions that she longs to share! Welcome, Mother Virgo!
The New Moon in Virgo occurs on 27th August and the Universe is full of challenges and a need for urgent action. This is a world where it seems we are being encouraged to reboot, re-assess, replenish, replan and take a clear, cool detailed look at where we are standing and where we need to go! Changes and adjustments are far from over but there is much sorting out to do. A Grand Cross occurs in the Cosmos alongside the New Moon, creating sharp corners and oppositions, decisions and challenges to our lives that must be dealt with before we can move on. It’s a moment when any attempt at effective action we try will be remembered – as will lethargy and laziness. Looking back at this time in the future, what did we do to help? How did we react to a call for action? Time to tackle pressing tasks within our own lives and the wider world. How well will we respond to the need for a clean-up? What needs to be reorganised, changed, planned for, dreamed up and reconstructed?
Tightly square Mars in Gemini and inconjunct Jupiter in Aries, the New Moon in Virgo is strongly influenced by the energy of the Grand Cross within which the South Node in Scorpio is opposite the North Node/Uranus conjunction in Taurus and square to them both is Venus in Leo opposite Saturn in Aquarius. We either actively involve ourselves in the radical and practical changes occurring on this powerful road we walk or we choose to observe from the kerb. Where there is a Grand Cross, there is a great potential for Power and the consequential events, together with the possibility of ‘stalemate’ when nothing appears to be able to move at all, like a traffic jam in heat. A situation that can only shift when one of the component corners of the Grand Cross is affected by movement in the Cosmos, either of its own volition or by other planets or significant astrological events such as the movement of the Nodes.
Virgo is an Earth sign, Mutable and ruled by Mercury. It is practical, down to earth and stimulates organisation with great attention to detail. Virgo helps us to spring clean and throw out that which is now either unnecessary or interferes with clarity, good health, constructive routines or progress. Virgo encourages us to give service to others – and to ourselves. It can be analytical to the point of being over-critical, usually in a well-meaning kind of way. There is more than a hint of traditional Mother attributes encompassed in Virgo energy. This Lunar Moonth’s ‘new start opportunity’ encourages us to re-establish, recreate, carefully reorganise our lives and to develop new ideas connected with the development of clarity, knowledge and helpful communications. Virgo discourages time-wasting, ‘dithering’ and waffling!
Swiftly moving Mercury (Virgo’s ruler) is in Libra, opposite Jupiter/Chiron – and the aspect dissects the Grand Cross of the moment, calling for action to break any present impasses. There are urgent communications to be made and decisions taken regarding the plight of people of the world who are displaced or without water, food and power and in need of help. Decisions will be made about the quality of justice and fairness being dished out for many. This New Moon could be the beginning of more realistic and practical approaches to the organisation of food flow and the plight of all those affected by war or displacement. Global warming and changing weather is becoming unavoidable and needs practical solutions – power sources unreliable or too expensive to maintain. Saturn in Aquarius and Venus in Leo challenge each other in opposition, the relationship reminiscent of a school master demanding that a feisty pupil should get her act together – now.
Past and present wounds need to be healed (Mercury opposite Jupiter/Chiron) and some Virgo logic and compassion employed in interchanges. Large numbers of the population obviously shouldn’t remain in stressful and stagnant situations for long periods of time and this becomes more obvious. The North Node/Uranus and South Node axis continues to back the call for urgent action and the Mars/New Moon square and Mars trine Mercury, suggests some very lively and feisty global communications as people speak harsh and sparky truths, sometimes without much control. People may make proclamations, statements, public confessions, some of which could be disturbing. Within the sparks, truths are likely to be hidden amongst the smoke and mirrors. Mercury opposite Jupiter seems motivated to rebalance, harmonise and bring back global Justice. The New Moon is energetically driven to clarify various issues and dilemmas that are all about us. Important channels of communication are opening. Let’s go!
As without, so within. We also need to seek our own sense of individual clarity and fairness. The Virgo New Moon energy input will potentially help us to make practical and useful adjustments to our daily routines. Yet again, at such a poignant astrological moment, we need to think clearly about the dreams, aspirations and intentions we want to manifest. Here are some ideas and issues to consider:
Naturally, some people would rather avoid real and practical change as instigated by Pluto’s long passage through Capricorn and confronting us now at the Virgo New Moon. Virgo brings an awareness of the impracticality of many present paradigms. Uranus conjunct the North Node assures us of the inevitability that different groups of people are going to rebel and make their feelings clear within this astrological climate. Others will re-establish and re-assert their positions and do anything they consider necessary to preserve what they feel is their all-important ‘status quo’. Some will work in energetic ways to help enable the Cosmic shifts and the inevitable changes we must experience for the re-balance and reboot of mankind to happen at this time. It’s a big adjustment for everyone.
Time to finely tune – and to grow! Like children asked to clear their playroom, I wonder – who will put their toys away to help clear our space? Who will help others tidy theirs away too? Who will organise, oversee, reassess, do the nitty gritty of hard work – and who will hide in a corner and read a good book? Who will disrupt the whole proceedings by whooping, laughing, undoing what others do, stealing and generally ‘throwing their toys out of the pram’ – thereby increasing the chaos rather than choosing to help sort it.
“I had thought that peace was a place where there was no turbulence or fear…. And where happiness was to be found in the calm at the centre, but at that moment, I finally realised that Peace wasn’t about avoiding things. It was about making the choice to live life with all its chaos around you…..having calm in your heart.” Vi Keeland
