New Moon in Virgo – 30th August 11:37 (BST)
Full Moon in Pisces – 14th September 05:32
“Whatever is my right as a man is also the right of another.” Thomas Paine
The inner planets of Mercury, Mars and Venus closely surround the New Moon in the sign of Virgo. They beam their message outwards to Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, Chiron and Uranus. “We hold the interests of the Earth and Humanity close to our hearts,” they say, “We stand together, facing the powerful energies of the Outer Planets. We understand the need for change and ask for their most practical, aspirational and humane energies to help us to make intelligent and practical decisions for the future!”
The Moon is at its closest to the Earth and this powerful Super-moon will help us to become more grounded, practical and organised in our approach to the challenges we are meeting. The energy of the Virgo New Moon gives us the opportunity to make a powerful new beginning and to initiate intense, personal ‘spring cleaning’ – starting on the 30th August! Virgo is an Earth sign – feminine, mutable and ruled by Mercury. An injection of earthy energy and an increased ability to be focussed and flexible in our daily routines – despite crisis around us – is exactly what we all need. With this energy comes self motivation and the ability to adjust and reorganise so that we control our own small areas of existence in more efficient ways.
Few people enjoy ‘house-work’ but most of us recognise that it is necessary to stop us from living in chaos. This month, we have an opportunity to both function more practically and to communicate from a more practical perspective – to pay attention to the details of our lives. It’s also an opportunity to clarify our personal intentions. This month, the image of the Virgo New Moon energy is an old fashioned, cliché cleaner – a middle aged, motherly lady in a flowery, pinafore, cigarette in her lips, scarf turban on her head, duster and broom in hand! She has a fierce determination to thoroughly and energetically clean and tidy spaces that are filled with confusion and detritus as energetically and as efficiently as possible. She cares about the details, takes pride in her work and is skilled and experienced. She is not afraid of hard work but when she pauses for breath, she might philosophise articulately about the rights and wrongs of life, surprising you with her insights and good sense. Her rhetoric, however, although insightful, might sometimes seem over-critical and ‘nit picking’ to those who prefer to ‘go with the flow’.
This is the second New Moon this month and the energy change from the creativity and expressiveness of the Leo New Moon at the beginning of August is enormous. The Virgo New Moon stands within a backdrop that is extremely ‘earthy’ (8 planets in Earth signs). Such intensity in Earth signs brings a surge in more methodical and intelligent approaches to problems that could lead to practical and sensible solutions. Virgo has a motherly and caring energy and encourages the importance of caring for each other. Jupiter in Sagittarius is square Neptune in Pisces and new ideas flow freely from the higher levels of our consciousness. Uranus in Taurus, trine the New Moon, continues to inspire and to spark creativity but this month, our dreams, innovations and inspirations have more chance of being realised and manifested into reality.
On a personal level, we need to get our own ‘stuff’ in order and our decks clear of anything superfluous that clutters and clogs our ability to be clear and efficient. We should plant seeds with great care this month in order to have a good harvest later. Here are some ideas to help us prepare our intentions for the approaching lunar month:
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
The New Moon forms part of a T square, squaring Jupiter in Sagittarius and opposing Neptune. She also closely trines Uranus in Taurus. The Nodal axis (North Node in Cancer) cuts across the whole astrological picture, screaming about the urgent necessity to consider our future and the fate that might wait for us if Humanity refuses to adjust its behaviour. Trine the Saturn/South Node conjunction in Capricorn, she adds to the general urgent need for structure and order. However, conjunct Mercury, (sesquiquadrate Pluto and conjunct the Saturn/North Node) indicates that we should expect harsh communications, loudly voiced contradictory opinions and rash statements of intent this month.
It’s hard to visualise the possibility of real change when people on both sides seem to be terminally unbending with capitalist, self-interested traditionalists on one side and the ‘idealistic left’ stressing the importance of equality and care for the environment on the other. In the UK, most of us are so very tired of the sound of the floundering, clunking, Brexit machine and of those who are determined to leave by midnight on Halloween whatever consequences this might have. The clichéd cries of ‘will of the people’ and the flimsy reasons for leaving Europe to ‘protect our borders’ and the ‘status quo’ seem hollow and irrelevant. And on the other side of the pond, the posturing of the Republicans, seemingly in their determination to get us back to the moral dark ages of the last century – where anyone non-white or Christian was dangerous, women ‘knew their place’ and the belief was that the Earth could put up with endless plundering with no effect – is becoming equally tiring.
Enter, Super-Moon Virgo to, hopefully, bring us all down to earth! Without a vital injection of sensible and practical Virgo communication, events might spiral even further out of control. However, even the strongest of political posturers might find themselves having to bend a little this month in order to make some practical compromises. The presence of mutable Virgo energy might make us realise at last that we have to attempt to compromise and indulge in some fair, practical and responsible decision-making. We do, in fact, have to consider the needs of all people on the Earth – not the few. Otherwise the future will be bleak.
The powerful Super New Moon in Virgo presents us with a unique opportunity to bathe deeply in her light of practicality and to organise our own lives and our attitudes to the present confusion around us in more thoughtful, practical and down to earth ways. Posturing and grandiose gestures have become impractical and ‘old hat’. We are forced to look at the opportunity to reconsider carefully the manner in which we communicate with each other, to understand, intelligently, what is needed by all people and to sensitively care for each other within more humanitarian systems. Time to radically reorganise and prepare for the initiation and manifestation of the new visions and solutions waiting in the wings.
Love and Understanding!
No Hate!
