New Moon in Sagittarius 14th December 16:16
Full Moon in Cancer 30th December
“The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.” – Joseph Campbell
The intensity and potential impact of the final two weeks of 2020 approaches with fanfares, fireworks and some melodrama! We watch it coming with some trepidation! It feels as if anything could happen within this dramatic astrological landscape as the Universe determines to change the nature of our future! The position of the final, pristine New Moon of the year – accompanied by the Total Solar Eclipse – lines up within a few degrees with the beating Galactic heart at the centre of our Universe. Earth will receive and absorb powerful wisdom and knowledge on a direct frequency of pure energy, the like of which we perhaps have never experienced before. The New Moon/Solar Eclipse demands that we make huge leaps forward and into the future. This is a massive opportunity for the Earth to make a meaningful and radical new start!
The New Moon is conjunct Mercury and the South Node in Sagittarius, trine Mars in Aries and square to Neptune in Pisces. Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn remain conjunct in Capricorn. Inevitably, the negative stalemate of energy that has been growing in intensity since the beginning of the year must break soon in order that it can reboot and renew! The New Moon tunes in like a radio receiver, loudly proclaiming the final break down of rigid political structures and the misuse of power that has confused us and interrupted our lives since the ‘great conjunction’ in Capricorn a year ago. The flaws and cracks in the paradigms we live in have been revealed and brought to crisis point. We have experienced political absurdity and a pandemic, confusing restrictions and broken promises. We have been forced to change personal plans for the future and to learn adjustment. In many ways, this year has felt as if we have been imprisoned by a variety of delusional and insane jailors who have given us little foreseeable chance escape or any certainty of the freedom many of us crave!
The astrological environment of the Sagittarius New Moon on the 14th December, however, marks the start of a radical New Age of change. It’s likely the next few months will be difficult as the stalemate of energy thrashes around in its death throws and finally breaks down. Sagittarius is a masculine Fire sign, ruled by Jupiter. It is mutable, malleable, philosophical and just, seeking joy and goodwill, freedom and bountiful abundance for all. For some, the energy of Sagittarius is epitomised within the cliché image of ‘Santa Clause’ – the kind, wise and generous man created from the Christian tradition of Christmas.
The New Moon/Total Eclipse in Sagittarius occurs a week before the Winter Solstice on 21st, a powerful moment in its own right when the Sun appears to turn direction over the Tropic of Capricorn and to make its journey northwards, gradually lengthening daylight in the Northern Hemisphere. Saturn will move into Aquarius on 17th and Jupiter on the 19th and they will conjunct on the 21st at 0 degrees 90 of Aquarius. This marks the beginning of not only a new 20 year cycle but also the beginning of a 200 year cycle as their conjunctions start to be in Air signs as opposed to Earth.
A new era begins and the energy gestates with a power that we haven’t experienced for a long time. A change of culture, ideas, philosophies and the manifestation of new, life changing technology is on its way. The acceleration of energy is empowered by the fact that Jupiter has made his last conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn during our lifetime. The incoming fresh Air – in contrast to that of Earthy, rigid Capricorn – allows long awaited and long overdue changes to speed up (Mars in Aries trine the New Moon/Solar Eclipse – although he remains, for now, square to Pluto). Aquarian energy is breaking through at last, allowing the vision of an approaching, more humanitarian New Era to blossom and to take flight. We are waking up to new possibilities in the way that we behave towards the Earth and each other – and the ways that we could organise humanity in fairer ways!
Although many issues have to be resolved before the world regains a sense of balance, we now sense it is on its way. The massive changes in energy will affect all of us globally as one humanity – and also as individuals. It might be difficult to adjust to our changing perceptions of the world and consequently changes to our own beliefs. (The specific areas of our lives on which we could best focus our New Moon intentions, wishes, aspirations and ‘New Year resolutions’ can be found within our individual Natal Charts.) Whatever intentions we make at this point in our lives, they are likely to have far-reaching consequences. Here are some specific ideas which might help focus our attention as we create them:
Suggestion: Light a candle with the intention of creating positivity at the conclusion to this year and the beginning of the next. We light it with the intention of bringing in Light, Illumination and Love for the start of the New Year (whether this might be the New Moon/Solar Eclipse, the Winter Solstice or 1st January!) to the whole of humanity and to ourselves. This is a powerful time to focus on our intentions for the future.
In which areas of your life do you consider you have not yet fulfilled your potential? Now is the time to start to create what you have felt unable to manifest until now! What steps, small or large, can you make to work towards your goals of fulfilment on a daily basis?
Within this time (and within what might be a continuing confusion for the next few weeks and perhaps into the first months of 2021), resolve to return regularly to your own inner centre of calm, to ground yourself in nature and to keep your aspirations firm and steady whatever occurs around you.
Freedom (or lack of it!) is a persistent issue for many of us at this time. What behaviour allows you to experience a sense of freedom – without endangering yourself and others?
How can you actively increase your inner sense of love, peace and calm over the coming weeks?
What is your personal philosophy?
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
Mundane astrology is the study of the way that astrological transits relate to world events – both politically and in terms of other global events. The astrological energy at this time is so intense that the relatedness of all of our individual thoughts, behaviours and actions become significant and powerful. We are all contributing to the energy of present circumstances and therefore to the creation of the future of mankind and the Earth.
On the 23rd December, Mars will square Pluto exactly. It is not ‘all over’ yet! The next few months could involve more confusion and potential violence as the old monsters of Greed, Selfishness and Lack of Compassion thrash out their differences and either finally die or are forced to see that they can’t continue in their present form. This is the end of an old era and is, inevitably, not likely to be comfortable! Mercury insists, however, as he conjuncts the New Moon and South Node on the 14th, that we communicate about fairness and justness of the issues that surround us and look to the future – as opposed to the past – for resolution. There is likely to be more confusion and fear as the loss of the kind of old-fashioned ‘coherence’ we were used to before this transition morphs into the building of more relevant structures. Venus in Scorpio insists that we examine our values (trine the Pluto/Jupiter/Saturn conjunction) and Neptune continues to beam out his vision of Hope in spiritual Pisces (square the New Moon/Solar Eclipse). Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) stands alone in steady Taurus. There will be change.
At the time of New Moon/Solar Eclipse on the 14th, the leaders of the Western World in the USA and in the UK continue in their intransigence against inevitable shift regarding reality, truth and change even though it has to happen.
We trust in the Love of the Universe and willingly open our hearts to accept and to absorb the new frequencies that are reaching us from the Heart of the Universe. We accept the energy we are being given is potentially different from anything humanity has experienced before and we are open to the waves of divine energy. We look with Courage, Hope and Love towards new and beautiful visions of the future, accepting the potent power of the New Moon and Solar Eclipse on the 14th as a chance for a New Beginning.
